So I am soon off to Cranwell, after nearly a year in the application!!
What are peoples advice/tips on what to expect?
Looking over the newly (provisionally!) published IOT Course it really hits home that my life is about to take off!!
I am really excited and I think that shows.
Cheers for any help,
CB.

Hey Chris,
Glad to hear you are so excited about starting IOT .. as I have just completed week eight of the last 'old style' IOT course at Cranwell here are a few insights as to what you can expect :
1. You will be amazingly tired - I nearly fell asleep whilst standing upright, wearing full NBC kit and practising eating drills !!
2. You will be scared by certain members of the NO 1 mess staff - beware where you place you napkin !!!
3. Beware of the CWO (College warrent officer) - his major pet hate is cadets talking whilst marching, to catch you doing this he will climb trees, hide behind bushes etc...
4. You are intially housed in No 1 mess ... the walk from NO 1 mess to Whittle Hall where you have lectures takes about 15 mins. However, each progressive course leader will want to ensure that you get to lectures on time and as such they avoid earache .. so by week 6 you will be forming up an hour before the start of lectures and arriving at Whittle Hall 45 mins before lectures !! Trust Me !!
5. You will experience an unprecidented level of cadet rumor and faff. My course spent a total of 30 mins one evening discussing the pro's and cons of sock positioing ... (one cadet could not fit 4 pairs of sock in a row !!!)
6. You will march everywhere !!
Anyway I hope this helps, any other questions please give me an email .. I am about until the 5 Aug.
Oh and I have also heard the following about the new course ..
1. You will all be issued with a laptop, and have internet access in your
rooms.
2. Parts of NO 1 mess are to be refitted prior to your arrival.

If you need a friendly face, I'm stuck on 'Development Flight' at the moment, and although I will be living in the Sgts' mess at Waddington until Christmas, I will be over in the mornings for PT etc. PM me for info.
You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.
