why do the sas have a boat troop?

A question mainly for the old and bold, but feel free to comment. Just doesn't make sence to me. If the sas disbanded boat troop then they could bring the troops up to strength.

Spooky,
I couldn't have put it better. Each to thier own.
And now I have to put in a one line thingamajummy.
But I think this is a discussion that should run.
I have very strong views!!!

A very good point spooky, I never looked at it that way. The main reason I asked this question is because I remember reading a article last year about the sas being overstretch, and how they where thinking of lowering the standards of selection or something, instead why not get rid of boat troop, is there really a need for them.

If you did away with boat troop and put the guys into the other troops you are still left with the same amount of guys Therefore getting rid of a troop isnt the answer

It's just a method of entry, once they're in they all do the same job.
Why do we have 3 battalions of paras when they will probably never jump en masse...?Answer: It gives planners an option and the enemy something else to plan against.
But there is only one Women's Royal Auxiliary Balloon Corps for obvious reasons. :P

Would that be the Rotund Glaswegian wearing the string vest or the Secret Squirrel Females with Large Inflations SF Unit?
