OMC or ME?

Post by evislprouts »

Hi,

I’m trying to decide weather to go for an operator mechanic communications or an engineering technician.

OMC
ME

Has anyone had any experience with either of theses jobs and if so please can you give me some more detailed information about the things that you have to do.

Thanks :D

but what i will say is here down at raleigh there is alot of talk about the OM branches changing pretty soon, they are gonna be more like they used to be and specific to just one job... thats what they are saying anyway there still will be cleaning and painting ect to do but it is gonna be spread across the board more.

As to whether this is true i dunno but my PO and CPO have both mentioned it.

Ok cool thanks.
I’m thinking that I work better with my hands so communications probably isn't for me.

When is the latest you can change your mind about the job you want to do? Because I have put down OMC on all my forms.

Thanks

My old man was a MEM. Did 36 years in the RN, retired as a WO with the BEM and enjoyed every minute of it.

ME is the Marine Engineering Branch

Within it you get MEOs (Marine Engineering Officers)
MEAs (Marine Engineering Artificers)
MEMs (Marine Engineering Mechanics)

yeah the OM W branch is getting changed to the ET :o branch (not the alien) engineering technician it just means you will have a better looking CV than if you were to put Operator Mechanic or Weapons Submariner etc. but some of the senior rates are throwing a paddy  cos they are gettin stitched right up when this comes into play especially chiefs!

cos they are being seen off they can't retrain and they will have to go into teaching billets so they will lose a lot of experienced lads cos they won't retrain them tw*ts!
