Post by jockladfaejockland »

All right lads?

I am trying to get as fit as possible as quick as possible I do circuits etc at scran time the PTI's give you a good 45 min beasting (I actually enjoy it :o ) but I have been told about Fartlek and the benefits it gives you I run round a normal football pitch (jog the long side sprint the short) and I can do this around ten times but after it am fcuked  how many should I be looking at before PRMC? cheers again lads :)

I dont think its how many you can do but the effort you put in, in each one.

Yeh for a fartlek session such as this footbal one its not how many you do its the times you get for each one. If it was measured as how many you do it would just become an endurance sesh which completely misses the point of the speed session around the football pitch. Which is supposed to get your speed and speed endurance up, so time yourself when you sprint up the one side but dont time the jog back. Do this on a phone or something or get someone else to, With a session like this whilst working really hard you should try and keep your times consistent, like one or two seconds apart, this will add to the difficulty :D

Gerschler Fartlek got me fit quickly mate.

Bit intense first time around but secret is not to overdo the interval jog I think.

I read half an hour for that football pitch one.

The one i do is sprint 30 seconds, jog 30 seconds, sprint 30, jog 30... and so on, and according to 'runners world' magazine - a good level of fitness is achieved when you can complete between 17/18 cycles to a good standard.

But i must say that Gerschler Fartlek is a cracking one also!

Sounds good, nice and simple is generally best. That's the problem with that Gerschler, you have to monitor times constantly....at the end of the second rep when your hanging out many a time I've repeated reps etc.
