Hi all,
I've been looking at some of the posts on the RM forum but haven't found any similar posts so if there are other posts out there that I've missed I apologise for being a twat lol.
Anyhow, I work in a casino and always work through the night doing 40 hours over 4 nights a week. I either work between 6.30pm-4.30am or 8.30pm-6.30am. I also want to be a Marine but has anyone else had to work their training around nightshifts' and if so do you have any tips or advice for me? I play football once a week with colleagues and go swimming once a week also but my fitness does need to be better for me to be ready for PRMC. I ordered a couple of fitness books that are recommended on this site but any help others' here can offer would be a great help.

gtsco, Good luck mate! 10 hour night shifts plus training is going to be hard work to get into...but (and I'm not speaking from experience here) I should imagine that so long as you're getting enough rest for your body to recuperate between sessions while you build up, eating sensibly and working your balls off training, you'll be just the same as all the other lads on this site.
I have to do long hours because of the amount of travelling I do so I've found getting that base level of fitness difficult because I struggled to get the time to train properly... and then when I did I was picking up stupid little injuries becuase of how tired I was. But once my body got used to it that sort of faded away.
Don't worry too much about the books though. The schedule on the RM site (part of the RN site) is perfectly good.

I work nights and I'm thinking of switching from 10 hour shifts to more 5 hour ones. I think it's not too hard to work around if you join an allnight gym or don't mind the hours you train at though, when I get in from work at 7:30 I'm usually completely knackered and I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not with regards to training, but until I've checked it's a cup of tea and a sit down after work for me.
I'd like to reccomend cutting your hours back, but I'm not even sure if I'd wanna do that just yet since while I don't *need* the money, it does come in handy. Also I've got no idea about the flexibility of work hours at your place so if this is of no help at all, sorry.

The chances of getting less hours is slim but as I only work 4 nights a week I can train the 3 days off and 2 of the days/nights I work. The only thing is my nights off are variable so it might turn out I sometimes can't get a days rest after a long run etc. but I don't imagine that should be a great problem.
Do you think I should do a run before a shift and circuits after a shift when I get home or vice versa?

I used to work a bar in the Alps from 1830-0400hrs everyday apart from Monday nights.
I slept from 0500-1200 and then went skiing or training then put my feet up for an hour or two before work. Kep tme fit-ish, but then Im not in the forces anymore.
whenever you have 5 mins crack out situps pressups etc, then the morning of your day off go for a run and before work do circuits
or get a new job

I work nights mate, I usually get up about 1-2pm, have something to eat which means I cant train for two hours, then I fall back in with 'normal' people and have tea at 5pm which means I cant train for another two hours, from which I eat something at 9pm so I therefore run at 11pm till 1am in the morning.
