Newbie with a few questions

Post by mgsfan »

Hi, glad to be a new member of these forums.

I've been thinking about joining the marines for a while now and I think it would be really good for me. I have no qualms with hard work and pushing myself to my limits, but I am kind of unfit at the moment.

I'm 19 y/o, 6'2" and somewhere between 11 and 12 stone (we've no scales at the moment). I'm fairly skinny as you can tell, but I used to play a lot of football, went swimming fairly regularly, and lifted weights for around 8-10 months. I still go for a run now and then, and sometimes do press-ups and sit-ups.

How long does it take to train to get up to a standard that would make me good enough to be a marine? (roughly)

You would be better off posting this in this forum mate.

To answer your question though, It depends how much effort you put in.

You need to be aiming for 60 pressups, 80 situps, 6 pullups, 3 miles in 21 mins and under and a good deal of sprint training in between all this. People usually pass PRMC with these sort of scores so this is sort of where you need to be aiming for the time being. The other big part of the PRMC is the determination part though, You just need to train to be able to give 110% aswell.

Best of luck.

8 to 9 months following the booklet the afco give you it worked well for me remember to take yourself up to a peak and then taper back down a few times throughout. any shorter period of time and it wont be worth goin
hope this helps.
you want it bad enough, you will get it.

Sound like me mate. Im about the same height and weight as you (and skinny) and I have only been doing on and off training for the last 6 months. Used to do loads of football, circuit training, swimming and running and got myself fit but then went downill. Only started proper training again recently - ive got my PRMC in late June.

Get yourself down to your AFCO ASAP and get the innformation you need to make your decision to apply or not. If you choose to apply, do it now to get the ball rolling. One of the reasons I lost my fitness is because I lost all my motivation to get fit because I was stuck at school and hadnot even applied. f@#k, if I kept at it I could have been in training right now. So dont hesitate!
