Overhand bicep curls

Post by friendlyfireaintfriendly »

Ive been working on my upper body strength a lot more recently recovering from dislocated knee (finally my runnings gone to **** and so has everything) anyway If i was to do a bicep curl with a weight of my own body weight odd would this be about the same as doing a good chinup overhand grasp? Just ive noticed very worrying creaking on my doorframe after 8 chinups :o

No I wouldnt have thought so, as the marine style chin ups work the back and lats. A lat pulldown would help using the same grip as if you were doing marine pull ups.

Lat pulldown wont help that much. Friend of mine can do well over his bodywieght on the lat pulldown but he can only do 5 undergrasp pull ups and even less overgrasp ones.

I guess you'll have to just find a tree to do them on. :-?

You can always use the 2 chairs and a broom handle and do loads of incline pull ups. They are good for increasing pull up scores.

or you could always put the bar in a different door frame.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming... 'F*ck, what a trip!'

Or if you have a loft, put a shovel handle (or something else which is thick and can support your full weight) across the entrance to it, and use that...that's what I do...

the only real exercise that will help pull-ups is pull-ups. Lat pull down will help because it is an exercise that trains the Latissimus Dorsi (back muscle) which is the main muscle used in pull-ups, and it trains it in the same action. But it won't do in place of it so crouchmasterT is right.
It's a bit like trying to use bench press instead of press ups.

Any back exercise will aid but you'll have to try and find somewhere else to do them - Park climbing frame/monkey bars or even a tree branch.
