Had my medical today. Got a heart murmur.
They have to send off the information to the Navy medical people in Portsmouth to see what they say. I wouldn't mind, ive played sport all my life and consider myself a fit person. I didn't think it'd really matter.

no not at all. Thats what i dont understand. I mean ive had a previous operation before for something else. So been put under anathestic, my heartbeat was obviously checked and no murmur was found! and this guy at the medical says i have a very slight one so im classed as temporarliy unfit?
tell me another one.
so now the joining process has stopped because they cant send me for my fitness test. The doctor did say 99% i will be fine to go in but he had to pull me up for it now because if i got further into the navy and it was found it would probably go back to him. So i can see it from his point of view.

It's more than likely the same as the Army procedure for this (on my medical i had a slight one) They sent me down to Shropshire Hospital to the heart unit for a scan.
The sign on the door said MOD screening so i am guessing its for all te forces in that area not just the army.
They will send you to either shropshire or a more local place. They get you to take your T-shirt off and use ultrasound (like on pregnant women) to check the main arteries in your neck, and all four individual valves in your heat. They then give the results to a Dr who takes your bloodpressure, listens to your heart and puts his finger on all the main pulse points in your body who will give you a yes or no then and there.
The tests take 20 minutes max but i was there for 4 hours because loads of people were there.
At least 1 in 10 applicants for the army have heart murmurs and only a few get knocked back on the test.

I feel sympathetic to lads who have problems during medicals, but its only during medicals that "quiet" problems arise.
Most heart complaints have little or no symptons, so although its a shitter this sort of thing delays your application, it would be an even bigger shitter if you were onboard ship in an operational enviroment with your oppos depending on you and you suddenly decide to have a heart attack.
There are reasons, the processes in place have been around alot longer than you or me, and in most cases work.
It annoys me that people think "it aint a big problem I'll only be doing xxxx!" when you have yet to experience xxxxx and dont know how you would cope fit let alone with a possible health problem.
Lets hope its nothing and you get to live your dream, but if it does stop you from joining it aint personal and is in your interests.
