OASC for University bursaries

Post by monkeydust »

Hi,

I will be attending OASC on November 28th and I was wondering exactly how much of it I will be doing as I am applying for a university bursary. The AFCO said I would only do part 1 of the selection (interview, aptitude and medical), however when I phoned Cranwell they told me I would do it all.

Please could someone confirm this either way just so I know exactly what I am going to be doing.

Thanks

OASC isn't my specialist subject, but if Cranwell themselves have told you that you will be doing the whole selection process I would believe them!

Thanks for clearing that up!

Are there any other parts to the fitness test other than the Multi-Stage fitness test (bleep test) and does anyone have any tips for training?

Dont worry I have been training already! I was just looking for any good training tactics!

But other than the swimming and bleep test there are no other physical tests on OASC.

Swimming Test

Post by chrisburden21 »

I attended OASC in December going for Pilot, when I did the swimming test at Cranwell's pool, I had to do 4 lengths, does this mean it is only a 25m pool??

for future reference, people hoping to do university bursaries and join a uas must complete all of cranwell selection.

those just hoping to get into a uas and apply for a bursary later just have to do the medical and aptitude.

What about if you sat the aptitude test to get onto your UAS do you have to do it again?

Is there no interview for the bursary?

cheers

the interview is done on base like a filter int. If you pass your aptitude you don't have to do it again. However if you pass your medical you have to do it again anyway. That goes for non bursary

Bursary, you have the aptitude once (if you fail then twice) and go through everything as you are trying to gain your comission.

Thanks for that.

I take it you recieve a mark from the interview, on base, and then you go down to Cranwell for aptitudes and medical. And then everyone who has applied for bursary has their scores reviewed and then they're awarded to the applicants?

ok, only non bursaries go for the on base int and they are marked between 1 and 6 for things like presentation, commitment, activities, etc. Then they go away and are told a week or so later if they made it through to cranwell

In that time the bursaries are at Cranwell sitting everything. Int, group exercises, medical, aptitude, fitness, the lot.

Bursaries and non bursaries only meet on base if they get in otherwise they never do as they do everything at different times. Be warned though, sometimes it is better to go into uas and then apply for a bursary. We have 1 burser out of 30 guys for pilot and 2 for Eng.
