Para entry.

Post by Baza »

Hi lads, I have been training for entry into the regiment but am unsure. I need some advice if I can make it or not. I can bo 1.5 miles in 8.48 with a small rucksack I weigh 82kg, can do 13 pull ups, 45 unassisted sit ups, oh, I need to know it I am meant to be doing them with feet under something? I can do roughly 50 press ups in 1 go. I can do about 30 dips in 1 go. I also noticed I have 2 running paces Recovery and Fast pace. Fast is when I can run 1.5 miles in 8.48 and recovery is 7 miniute mile for me which is a pace which I never get tired on. am I going the wrong way about this or something I need a little guidance? Thanks for all you advice!

Don't worry about it mate, just try and keep your self fit and go for it, you sound a lot fitter than some who want join.

Fitness isn't everything mate. If you cant hack some Para Corpral screaming in your face, or you cant jump out of a plane when your turn comes, or you get affected by the weather or you just cant keep going when the going gets tough, then you wont make it.

But, if you think you got what it takes, why not join the band wagon and go up to Catterick.

They will get people fit, whether they like it or not...but obviously it does help to be fit before you go in.

You sound fitter than me, and im going into training in January :P

Sound simliar to me mate, in terms of fitness. You'll definately make it through RSC. I'd go ahead with it! Keep up the good work too!

Yeah, you're meant to do sit-ups with your feet either held or under something.

Good luck!

Ok, cheers lads. I am training with my mate who is going to RAF reg in 3 months. I am not going into RSC for another year. I used to weight a ton but I dieted for 3 months and lost 60lbs well more like 56lbs. I am so glad you confirmned the sit up question cos I keep getting vague shite from my mate who is in CM Guards. I also get really pissed of when an idiot I know, says guards are better than Paras which is just pure BS. He wants to join but is a fat bastad and not good or fit enough. I will keep myself fit for next year. I have tried to do some stupid shite such as trying to sprint with a AA Bergen with a nicly nestled Jerry can filled to the brim(hard stuff). BTW, I am 18 so I will attempt it when I am 19.

He's done it again!

This is quite clearly our friend CAMTECH. You're getting there, you're learning. Try again some time.

Yep I had a sgt from PWRR speak to me about the fitness in the reg infantry. He was quite impressed with my enthusiasm and gave me some books on jobs ion the military. Just a thought but what is the reg pay for Para soldiers who have been through everything?

It's £50.12 a day plus daily para pay of £4.63. For a more in depth look try here:

Cheesepossessed,

I know it is longer and harder to get promoted in the paras, but how long do you think it would take someone to get promoted to L/Cpl in the reg, from the day they pass out. Also, what is the process involved? Is their a course/courses to go on before promotion?

By the way, will you be around depot in January-the Summer 2005, or have you got your work cut out with the recruiting team? (just so i know to standby or not when i go up in Jan :P )

The normal time frame nowadays is around 3 years, and to be eligible you must have completed drill and duties course. Don't, however, take it as read that after 3 years service you will automatically be promoted, you have to earn it. If you're a waster then you'll reap the benefits i.e - none!

What makes you think i am a waster? I did ok on the weekend up at Colchester didn't i? Besides, im not saying i am good enough for promotion etc, after all im not even in training yet. I was just curious of the process.

Thanks anyway.

LOL, I had some RGJ guys trying to recruit me for their regiment. Seemed like they don't like Paras. They started saying stuff about battle dishonours. One of them was ever younger than me :o . Although not too surprizing. Are there any trade battalions ie engineers or something in the Paras.
