JROC COURSE - LACK OF!

Does anyone know the waiting time at the moment to get on to JROC, I know you have to go through IOT frist.
The reason i ask is that i still have 2 years of uni left and given the current rumours i have herd (JROC with only 5 people on it!) I was considering applying now rather then waiting until i complete my degree.

I'm in the same boat - wanting to join the RAF Regt in 2 years after completing my university degree.

I asked someone who is about to start IOT in the next week and he said the best time is to apply in your final year. Thats what i am going to do!!!

not sure if this is totally relevant as i am going for int but i applied this time last year at what was the start of my final year. went to oasc at the end of june and still waiting to hear. lack of places blah blah blah. lucky if i start iot in april, more likely may or august (apparently may might be cancelled), which will be two years after i applied!
with jroc, last i heard (i used to live in honington and am related to a couple of fairly senior guys) they were down to 3 every 2 years. as far as i know that hasn't changed but competition for the places is stiff.

Hmmmm, the loss of Rapier is unlikely to affect current Regt Officer manning levels, although those JO's coming up for assimilation (service past the 16 yr point) may have a tricky time until things settle down. A current JROC is just about to start, Mon I think. Current thinking is to run 1 JROC per year. Don't forget Regt Officers are classed as Ops Support, and as such are very competitive for other jobs outside of the mainstream Regt.

Yes I do.

All those starting JROC in 05 are almost certain to have been through the OASC system to the point of being given an IOT start date already. Those that apply now are effectively applying for a JROC sometime in 06.

The number of places available is less than it has been for the last few years, in common with all other branches, so competition is harder than normal. No, I am not going to quote exact numbers because I don't want to raise or lower any hopes, and the recruitment targets can change throughout the year as cirumstances change. However, there are still places and so no one should be discouraged from applying.

I will endeavour to answer any serious question raised concerning JROC or JROC selection-related subjects.

That being said i went to my London AFCO last week and they told me that they werent recruiting at all for Officers in any trade at the moment and that there is little chance of them offering me a shot at RAF Reg Officer any time soon, i've still go 2 years left on my degree and if memory serves right i can apply up until 25?

You are right, the upper age limit for direct entrants is 25. If you have 2 years left on your degree you presumably have plenty of time left until you get to that age. I am not in a position to contradict your AFCO, but small numbers of places are likely to be available for the near future. We are still running PROACs for example.

The recruitment situation when you get to the end of your degree could be completely different from now (of course no one can make any guarantees on this!) so biding your time and letting the current slowdown on recruitment run its course is certainly an option for you.

Regarding your post on another thread about joining the army and transferring, it has been done before and presumably still can be. However, any transfers are still dictated by the number of vacancies in the RAF Regt, so as well as being a pretty long winded way of doing things you are still competing for the same slots.

Had a careers fare at uni today and there was a Wing Commander who was a hell of alot more helpful then London AFCO and is going to try and get me on a PROAC in either Feb or May.

Who did you speak to at the London AFCO??

Is it still a female flt lt as the OC there??
