Footcare

Post by J.M.C »

This is mainly to all the chaps who have passed PRMC and been issued Boots or anyone else who can help.

My boots are really comftable now, after like 6-7 weeks of wearing them in.But even though i have been on many long walks and done a bit of running in them,i havent had any blisters yet??? Maybe my feet were already fairly tough,i do(or did) used to play a lot of football..?

anyone else like this,or say the complete opposite and has suffered badly from blisters???
Passed PRMC 20th - 23rd january

Best advice I can offer is too keep your feet dry
Always wear fresh socks every day
Always use foot powder
Keep the toenails cut straight and short ( not raggy and pulled off )

Keep your boots clean and waterproof them , I use nikwax , dont know about anyone else

Throw away those pastic insoles and get some sorbothane jobbers ,

Soaking feet in surgical spirit is meant to help as does taping in zinc oxide tape , I've never done either but I'm no bootie !

Stick with black Kiwi boot polish. I broke mine in well by submerging them in hot water and going for a nice long walk in them. I did not suffer from blisters during training as I wore a pair of thin 'Coolmax' liner socks under the issued socks. However I did get hot spots on the soles of my feet when yomping but a strip of zinc oxide tape sorted this.

Not if there covered in blisters and hot spots, to the point that you can barely run.

Hmmm i think after doing alot of preparation it doesnt really effect me anymore (i just got used to it) although my feet are covered with blood after runs. Whats this zinc tape? Where can you buy it from coz a little less pain makes a difference.

Zinc oxide tape is usually white in colour and ultra sticky. When it has been on your feet for a couple of days, it can rip your skin off if you are not careful with taking it off. You do get issued a few roles of it for your troop but it is never enough to go around. Go to a proper first aid shop and get the two inch stuff for better coverage. It will only cost about £2 from a proper first aid shop, however if you buy it from 'Boots' it will cost double for less. The tape acts as a barrier - prevention is better than cure. They all used to laugh at me cause I was the 'foot man' (always looking after them) but when their skin was hanging off and unable to yomp back on a criteria exercise the laughing stopped.

Yeah it works a treat on those longs walks. Well worth the buy.

i found the best way to stop blisters and hotspots was to chop my feet off then stitch them back on at the end of training. worked a treat for me. next question
