we were shown the 30ft wall at PRMC.

Its part of the assualt course which has to be done in under 13 mins. Its an individual effort not a team effort.

Well done JMC on passing by the way .

From what I remember from the green bible it's like a climbing wall, it's not just a flat wall you're expected to climb spider man style or anything. JMC can confirm that if I'm right.

PS JMC, did that corporal let you off for running into him? stupid boy J/K :D

There is a rope to which u use to pull yourself up and bricks sticking out of the wall for your feet to go on.Doesnt seem to demanding but i guess you will be exhausted when doing this test.

@aldo,

lol m8,running into a cpl wasnt the only stupid thing i did.I also kicked gravel at the sergeant major...twice!! by acident ofcourse :)

The point about the 30 foot wall is that it used to be, and I assume still is, the last obstacle on the combined Tarzan Course (an aerial confidence course) and the bottom field assault course.

So having just done the Tarzan and the Assault course you have a couple of hundred metre run back up the hill, and then you climb the wall, using the ropes, the stones sticking and every ounce of willpower you can muster.

All to be done within 13 minutes for recruits, less for YOs.
Archie.

Ofcourse :D You must have done pretty well if you managed to pass after that. What were your scores?

my scores were...

11.2 on the bleep

37 press ups

68 sit ups

6 chins

I certainly could have got to 12 on the bleep but after i had reached my goal(11) i just thought it would be better to keep some energy for the rest of the gym tests. So i pretended to slip a bit, fall behind and then get stopped..LOL.

press ups not really my strong point, got 9 deducted by 37 was good enough.

quite good at sit ups, didnt have any deducted.

the chin ups were probably the easiest part of the gym test.

JMC: sorry if your getting bored of all these questions but im curious to know how many pressups you could do when not tired before you went down? e.g. in the morning, not after a run

not a problem m8,im more than happy to help.Remember i was just like youonly two/three weeks ago.

45 was my max before i went down(Not exactly great) i did get 45 at PRMC but 9 were deducted.Practise running on the spot, you do this NONE stop in the gym.

remember, you will only fail the gym test if u get lower than 20 press ups.A few people on the course got like 22 or 25 press ups and passed because they hadnt failed anything.

cheers J.M.C

i can currently do 62 pressups ; 11 pull ups ; 70 sit ups

I could run 3miler in 20/21 minutes but then i got shin splints. :( Rested a month and then started running on grass. Couple weeks later i had a go on tarmac and straight after i could feel the shin splints still there. Im going to let myself totally recover before i do any running now! Better in the long run I guess, but im dreading what my running is going to be like! It would of been about 7weeks off running when I start again! ARGHHH

m8,those scores are great and you would certainly pass gym test one.But what about you CV work?? how far are u running..how often???

One chap in my room, had excellent scores on gym test(better than mine for sure) but he couldnt complete the 3 miler, because he had only been running 2 milers 2/3 times a week.

Stix, did the Commando Challenge back in sept 2002, and took the team round CTC, with a Guide from the guardroom. I couldn`t believe it when he said they don`t jump off the gantry halfway down the back of the wall now. when i told him we used to, his eyes nearly popped out his head. 8)
