If your lucky enough to get in (and that will take enough out of you) then there are courses open to you, however don't get confused with the job that 9 Sqn do. They are the Parachute trained unit from the Royal Engineers and they undertake the specialist engineering tasks (demo, bridge building etc).

For your average grunt your main job is as a rifleman in a fire team once you get to grips with that then you can think about additional courses, but you will be at the back of a very long queue. Every man and his dog will have their name down for any half decent course.

If your thinking of joining get yourself down to the RO and have a word they will give you better info than me.

The main role of a Paratrooper [Parachute Regiment] is as an Infantry soldier, other trades supply there own volunteers for the P Course and as Paratroopers attached to Parachute Regiment. If you want a trade join a trade Unit get the grades then do your P Course and get your wings and Beret that way, the only thing is that you will wear your units badge in your Beret rather than the wings of the Parachute Regiment.
