If you join up you may find youself doing a lot more than simply running in this heat, add-in heavy bergans, NBC suits and higher humidity, possibly all at once. Life can be really really grand.
It is ok to run in the heat if you take precautions.
a) Do not run at the hottest times of day. Run early morn or evening
b) Ensure you are well hydrated and take water with you for your run
c) Reduce your training intensity and duration (MOST IMPORTANT)
If you dont do these you risk dehydration, heat exhaustion and generally making yourself very ill. Listen to your body and you will know when you are reaching your limits.
On the up side, training in hot, humid temperatures will cause adaptations in the body that help improve performance. Basically if you're careful and sensible you'll be able to carry on training and carry on getting fitter.
Also, when you finish your run make sure you cool yourself down with cold fluids and a cool shower, especially if you really are feeling the physical stress of the heat.
Ok dont want to sound like an idiot but I just ran in this heat and really had to push myself around my usual 3 mile circuit even tho i was completly pouring with sweat afterwards I think it was worth it as when you get in you'll be expected to run and do even more in these conditions so I say give it a go even if you do feel like your going to die, as you'll most probably gest beasted in the RM also good luck
I drank loads of water like you said, but you cant carry water with you...my t shirt was enough to carry.
By the way do any of you do a lot of hill work? Because I'd say most of my runs are up hills, it really gets to you. I find the three miler hard going and theres hardly any hills in that course of mine, but its nothing compared to the two hill courses I run in terms of tiredness after completion. Having said that my 3 mile time was 24mins last time I did it so thats probably why.
Hmm the run i do has 1 steep hill climb but the heat today deffinetly made it worse.. you'll find when you actually do the 3 mile run at the PRMC you will push yourself to crap as you'll see how many people are carrying on and your almost quitting so this makes you push yourself even more.. just carry on with what your doing and just wait for the day..
To try and keep going try doing about 6 seconds sprints every 5 mins in your run and carry on running this really hurts have been sick from doing it but it really does help in the long run.. hope this helps
I've just come back from a 20 mile cycle ride with my mates most cross country I drunk about 7-8 pints of water and it wasnt enough so take alot of fluids when the weather is like this doing any sport encluding cylcing, running, rugby ect Other wise you really will be f@#ked.
I have been cycling to work and back for a few weeks now, its about 8 miles a day. But today when I got about half way through my journey which just happens to be at Shooter Hill (South London) which is about 432ft. Once I got to the top I was F*@KED, I got my self a bottle of water and no lie within 3 minutes it was warm, I was so dehydrated.
But I will be back up there 2moro, with more water.

Look guys you bunch of wimps, just get out there and do it. If you're at war and it gets a bit hot, you don't sit and wait around till it cools down do you? Just drink lots and go for it, remember, sh*t happens.

I agree with rabby.. however does anyone get that stinging from sweat after a long time? I think its because you dehydrate so theres less water in the sweat therefore more salt. May not be true but it sounds kinda rite.
It doesn't bother me anyway. I wudn't stop unless I was stopped or have finished my scheduled run.
I only get a slight tingly sensation when the sweat goes in the eyes. Othere than that, just press on witht he sweat pouring everywhere, the whole point of sweat is that it cools your body down when the air hits it against your skin, if you whipe that away your just asking for your body to overheat.

yeah I disciplined myself not to scratch, itch or fidget while exercising lol.. I was told it really pisses off the guys down at CTC.
Its make or break day for me tomorrow. See if the 6 months hold I was put on has changed me enough for them to accept me. Personally I am raring to go and I think I've achieved what he wanted to see.
