Anti-war mongers

Post by Aldo »

Just wondering what you thought about people like anti-war protestors and the like.

The reason I ask is because I have a mate who, since he found out I was joining the marines, has spent every second he can trying to talk me out of it usualy stating the obvious like "you know you could end up in a war" and "you know you could get killed." I mean does he think that I'm joining thinking that all I'll be doing is going to Iraq to get a nice tan. I know he's entitled to his opinion but I don't want to hear about it every second of the day.

Have any of you had any experience with someone like this? What did/would you do?

All my mates and people i hang around with including my mam and dad now are up for me joining, i know what i am joining for, there are a few opposed who say trash like 'what if you go to war?' i normally reply with...'SHIT i never thought of that:| i suposed i will have to either run or lie down and pretend to be dead, you stupid f@#k, what if i goto war? what do you think i am going to do!?!?'

The support for me is growing now from family and family friends now that i did well on thursday, and i feel more confident in my self....so bring on PRMC and Recruit training!

Cheers, dave

They’re dicks, most of them are gutless and would be happy letting someone else do it, I have no time for them... :fist:

I know what you mean about gutless, but what really gets me is that when I question him about his beliefs and ask about stuff like world war 2 he says he would genuinly not mind if the country was run by hitler!! :o

Aldo,

Your mum might want you to knock off all those terrorists today. Ask her again when you're leaving for a combat zone.

For the Omaha landings the top brass used untried and untested troops - not because they thought they would be brilliant, but because they knew the troops would have no real idea about what they were about to be asked to do.

Personally I don't mind anti war protestors on the whole, it's their right to protest and hold their opinion, though of course it's not the same when they try to forcve their opinions on others. With regards to my family, I'm quite lucky as they're all decent and are happy to let me join because it's what I want to do, even my grandparents are supporting me despite being quakers (very pacifist).

When confronted by your w@#k friend
quote this.
War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
If a man has nothing he is willing to die for then he isn't fit to live.

Great quote, I have a nagging feeling I've heard that before though. Who originaly said it?
