Solomon Islands.

Post by harry hackedoff »

Never had much exposure to Polynesians till we came down here. Maoris, Fijians, Tongans, Solomon and Torres Straights Islanders, etc. Great people though, terrific sense of humour, great rugby players and a fearsome reputation as soldiers. Young Master Hackedoff is a great conversation starter, he’ll talk to any bastard :P There are many Polynesians who use the same park as we do and we have become friendly with several families as a result of his efforts. Specially one family from the Solomons, they have a daughter called Marn-nia-hey, who thinks Jack is sex on legs. She`s right of course. Well, give him a few years.
Daddy’s name sounds like Torua-hey, but it’s easier to just call him "mate". They came here the same week we did. He showed me phots of his home island, it’s the sort of Pacific Idyll that costs a fortune to visit for a jolly, palm fringed beaches, grass huts, blue lagoon, etc. He is fluent in several European languages and is here studying Business Studies. f@#k knows why. This is the typical educational standard of most Solomon Islanders, attained in the Island school, grass roof, no walls. These people have had a severe case of political instability, which resulted in a coup. After the coup, law and order broke down, tribal loyalties caused dissent and further breakdown. Anarchy resulted The police force became complicit in this breakdown and a Solomon Island MP came to Oz last week and asked for help.
There have been no replies to official requests for further information and the Aussie govts view is that there is no longer a credible government in the Islands capable of making a response.
So, they have decided to act on the information they do have and will shortly be sending an intervention force consisting of 150 police, some judiciary, some prison staff, backed up by at least a battalion sized infantry group. For the sake of people like Marnia and Torua, I hope this is successful.
Have you had any coverage in UK? This could kick off early next week.
Aye, Harry,

I only really pay attention to TV news, but I ahven't heard anything about this at all. That the Aussie government is having to do anythign is terrible, the Solomon Islands are supposd to be a British realm, and we as the British should be doing something if there's a problem :(. All I got from the BBC is this piddly litte thing http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-p ... 963024.stm .

I think it's a sign of the depressing times though, in the UK at least. Guess what was the main feature of Channel 4 news today (usually the best of the terrestrial TV news programs)? DAVID BECKHAM. From what little attention I was giving it seems his current team don't mind selling him. AND THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABSOLUTELY THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENT IN THE WORLD TODAY?!?!?!? This is absolutely disgusting if you ask me, though perhaps I shouldn't be surprised. I think I may have to have another rant later :(.

New Zealand will almost certainly send forces if the Australians do, at least that’s how it’s being reported in NZ. The Aussie’s will have to give them a lift though, and provide air support if it’s needed.

Fiji and France have forces based close-by which could be used too.

You're right there Spitz, I applied to be a pilot in the RNZAF but they said they already had one.

The RNZAF has just been delivered two new Boeing 757-200 jets for VIP flights, perhaps you should re-apply? Funny thing actually, well sad really, having sold the Skyhawks and Aermacchi jet trainers, the government decided that their comfort is far more important than actually protecting the shores of NZ.

Poor buggers in the airforce are keeping Hercules engines attached with string and cow-gum, the Navy has been told that new vessels will be built to civilian standards and the army is being equipped for U.N. peace keeping missions. It’s obvious Helen Clark and her government don’t care about the military, sound familiar?

Ye gods, who said involve the French? Not bl**dy likely, who could trust them to do the right thing and not stab everyone else in the back?

Much the same in Canada spitz.
So I’m led to believe. Seen on some U.S. sites the Canadians have been taking a verbal beating nearly as bad as the frogs. They seem to have forgotten eight years of Clinton running down their own military, short memories.

If I run across any more I’ll tell about the Arrow, devious little buggers.

Yes, it has been suggested that the French take part. But they will only take part in one of two roles:

1) Storming and/or sinking any GreenPeace ships in the area.
or
2) Storming and/or sinking any GreenPeace ships in the area and then blow-up the Island.

They are of course world leaders in these roles.

It`s taking longer than I thought, but then I`m not privy to the insider info.
Latest is that the remnants of the govt have finally asked for assistance. Oz PM made this a pre-condition for intervention.
Force will consist of Oz, NZ, Fijians, Tongans.
Kermit did say "that a request to contribute, militarilly" would be favourably considered, was given the bum`s rush by Aussie PM John Howard, as we "don`t want to be seen as Neo-Colonialists" Really? :o Quell Surprise. And your reason for invading Iraq was?
There is a British presence on the islands already, in the form of a single copper.(Is this Neo-Colonialism, Harry) Er, might be. Depends who`s asking
The villain of the piece is one Harry( :o ) Keke, who last week topped two islanders, by breaking every bone in their body before taking their heads off. He has lined villagers up, on likely invasion beaches, and his message is clear.

Revised timescale for intervention, less than two weeks. Wont come soon enough for some, sadly.

Murrayfield, Fiji playing Jockland, first lineout, some wag in the crowd, "Fiji, this is your President speaking!"
Second half, first lineout, "Fiji, this is your ex-president speaking!" :black: :black:
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

The Oz-lead force is revving up for a start as early as Friday. I can`t decide if the delay was due to the French wanting to join, which lead to John Howard getting the Solomons govt to spell out exactly what they wanted( using the words No French) or to put pressure on Harold Keke and his gang. Either way it`s a goer. Watch this space
