How long have you been wanting to join the Royal Marines?

Post by Geoff »

Ive been wanting to go in the marines for about 3 and half years, since Year 9 in my old high school to be exact, 2 marine PTI's came in and did a session with our best PE group (i was in it) and they absolutely f@#k us! everyone was near crying with tiredness, pain and exhaustion. everyone felt dizzy because it was so intense aswell. Then in the afternoon they took us to watch a video all about what the marines do, it looked wikid, thats what i want to do i said.... 8)

I've only really wanted to join the RM for about four months or so. Before that I wanted to be a pilot (RAF at first, then Royal Navy after I realised my asthma excluded me from the RAF) which had been my goal for about five years. in the last year of the pilot phase I started becoming more interested in ground combat, and the more I learned the more interesting I found it and before long I'd decided if I couldn't become a pilot I'd go RM as a second choice. After some months of difficult decisions I finally decided that I was more interested in the RM than the FAA, and here I am :).

Nb: Sorry about being a complicted bugger :).

Hey voodoo sprout, i'm sure I read somewhere that asthma excludes you from entry into RM?? Perhaps you should check...just a thought.

Yup, that's the deal. With most of the armed forces, RM included, you can enter if you have had no asthma attacks and taken no related medication for at least four years before applying. But the RAF are understandably more strict, and to be a pilot at least any history of asthma whatsoever excludes you.

if you have asthma, you CANNOT join. if you have not had it for the past 4 years, you are ok. thats a fact.

Erm...............6-7 years id say.
I was like a few of you mentioned didnt leave the house for months because of what i was busy programming for people. When i started training a couple of month back running 5 mins killed me and that was as much as i could do.Now i am amazed how far i have progressed in such a small amount of time.
