HIA GEOF IM NOT SURE ABOUT THE 30 WEEKS BUT WHEN I WAS IN TRAINING 1999-2000) AFTER 13 WEEKS THERE WERE ABOUT 15 LEFT OF THE ORIGINAL TROOP LEFT AND THE REST WERE MADE UP OF LADS RETURNING TO TRAINING FROM HUNTER TROOP OR LADS WHO HAD BEEN BACKTROOPED FROM THE TROOP AHEAD OF US,NOT ALL THE LADS LEFT THOUGH OBVIOUSLY ,THERE WERE QUITE A FEW WHO GOT BACKTROOPED THEMSELVES AND A FEW WHO WERE INJURED,SO IT JUST GOES TO SHOW AGAIN HOW DEMANDING TRAINING IS REMEMBERING ALSO THAT MANY LADS WHO LEAVE HAVE ALREADY OBVIOUSLY PASSED THE PRMC THUS PROVING THAT EVEN MEETING THE PRMC STANDARDS ,IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO GAURANTEE EVERYONE IS STILL TOUGH ENOUGTH TO COMPLETE TRAINING.
Conrad,
Please don't shout!
I joined in '70's (yes thats the 1970's), there wasn't any form of pre-course.
I seem to remember over 70 went through the gates at Deal, of which under 60 went through the gates at Lympstone. We too were swelled from the ranks of Chosen and Hunter Troops, and some joined from being back-trooped.
But to answer Geoff's original query, less than 30 marched out of Lympstone.
Good Luck

I also joined in the 70s, there were 51 of us on that first day at Deal. When
we passed out as Kings Squad 20 of us left the parade ground under the command "Royal Marines to your duties quick march", it was a good feeling to know that all the "non hackers" had been weeded out and you were left with blokes who you knew you could trust.
A question,do they still have "milling" sessions when you first join?,that was always good for a laugh until it was your turn.

Hey Guys,
Am I the oldest three badger here?
I joined the finest in the world Jan 6th 1963 at Deal passing out at Lympston Feb 18th 1964 with JE 16.
Like Mutley there was no pre course to contend with. I guess that was because we all, Recruits (over 18yo) and Juniors went to Deal for basic training drill, Pt and weaponary.
As I remember there were 45 of us that took up residence at Deal in 63 and 20 odd that marched out of Lympston with a Green hat.
This morning BBc 24 showed a 4 min clip of recruits at 'work' on the lower field at Lympstone, inparticular the brick wall! I had great problems with this as I was only 5.6, Remember the regain? never did get wet, Lucky I guess. Oh how the memories flood back. One piece of advice to any young lad thinking of joining. Keep you nose clean, Do as your told in EVERY instant, shut down the brain when it hurts and enjoy, coz it gets does better
