Gives a whole new meaning to:

"Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war"

Believe the furthest one is a relation of mine! :D

Looks like a Vickers, if it is, they were still being used in the early 60s.
It was the heavy machine gun before we got the GPMG.

The best bit is the fact that the dogs are wearing muzzles, can't risk anyone getting hurt can we !!.

Many years ago there was a firearms amnesty in the UK. The widow of an ex home guard member phoned the cops to collect a firearm which was issued to her husband during WW2. The cops asked her to bring the gun in, she being elderly and frail said it was too big and heavy, so the cops said they would send a car.

Plod arrived and entered the house, sitting in the front room trained down the road was a pristine Vickers on its mount, complete with water can and a belt of 303 Mk8 loaded into the gun. Plod nearly had a cardiac arrest and contacted the station. Lots of visits by various senior plod officers and after many phone calls an army unit arrived, unloaded the gun and took it away.

Asked why he didnt hand the gun back at the end of the war, she said that he did try, but the army had no record of the gun and wasnt interested.

What a little treasure lol.
