Have your reasons straight about why you want to join para reg specifically.
Make sure you know what happens in Depot, i.e. what week is P-company and what events do you do. What happens on week 6 of training? etc etc
They will want to know about your family, your home life, social life and what you do in your spare time.
Have some regimental history in the back of your mind just in case. Specifically the regimental battle honours.
Just relax and be yourself. Its easy.

hey,scouse_liam,
for best source of brief but detailed info,go to jobcentre plus and you will find a recruitment booklet for paras;it has the history and other stuffs, such as application process, interviews, suggested training etc.
At the interview, they will ask you about each battalion;the locations, the specialisations, what is the p-company?(how long it takes?what events are in it?)how many weeks is para training at ITC?and divided in what periodics,e.g. first 6 weeks pass-out parade and weeks 20-21 p-company etc.where have been the paras deployed to in recent history? what are the SFSG and pathfinders etc.?They are very thourough. If u wanna impress them, give them all these informations from one question they will initially ask u, WHAT DO U KNOW ABOUT THE PARAS?Take it from there to explain the 4 battalions, the locations, the p-company,the weeks etc. Also be prepared to know something not much as of your paras knoweldge,of your second option choice,e.g. royal engineers etc.

You will also be asked about your family, social life, girlfriends/boyfriends, previous jobs,if ur comfortable to share a dorm with other 15+ people, how much time would you like before having a crack on the selection. Also, education and what you feel about this and that in your life etc.good luck.

You should know a little about the Brigade.just_me wrote:Would you have to swot up on 16AA aswell?
I.e. That there are 2 Parachute Regiment battalions in 16AAbde and there are supporting units such as 7 RHA, 9 Sqn Royal Engineers, 216 Sqn Royal Signals and The Pathfinder Platoon who all come under direct command of the Brigadier.
The current Brigadier is Brig Carlton-Smith, 22 SAS.
I think thats about all you really need to know. Its all online anyway.

SFSG is the Special Forces Support Group (They do what it says on the tin, supporting Special Forces on ops). 1 PARA is currently part of the SFSG.
The Pathfinders - http://www2.army.mod.uk/para/pathfinder.htm
Although I think someone on this site may know a little more!

There's no need to worry about the interview, even if you can't answer a question that's put to you just be honest and say you don't know, better to do that than attempt to bullshit your way through.
The interview is more about getting an idea of your personality and assessing your suitability for the Forces, knowing about the Regiment is a bonus of course and will show that you're keen.
Why not call into the AFCO and have a word with them and get some advise from the horses mouth? You can pick up a booklet on the Paras too. You're lucky as the guys in Liverpool AFCO are good blokes and won't steer you wrong unlike in some places.
Best of luck.

hey,
As Alfa noted you are accessed in terms of your CHARACTER,but knowing the relevant info(as you will see when receiving your info pack and ticket to your ADSC destination,''KNOWLEDGE BREEDS CONFIDENCE,CONFIDENCE WILL HELP YOU PASS YOUR SELECTION'',meaning it)tells them of what they seek SELF-DISCIPLINE(showing initiative and hardworking in researching and spending your own time to learn about your desired choices).Discipline is a word that usually is underlined or circled by your recruiter/interviewer,so too,is initiative and as noted above the all show them a confident recruit very positive acumen.
In short, know all you need to know by heart about paras (or whatever reg you desire),if you really would like to have a chance to get into the reg without,in a sense, being passed or failed through sum of your all performances, physical and so forth.
For Just_Me (I really thought your were an ''insider'',just a thought),you dont need to know about 16AA,as long as you know (even not important) that paras are a core part of the brigade, then thats that.IT IS ALL ABOUT YOUR SPECIFIC CHOICE KNOWLEDGE.
