last week as a civvy

Post by BIG Hal »

right gentlemen, I have one week left before i go to depot para, and want your suggestions as to whether an update of on the progress of me, and 721 Arnhem platoon, would be welcome or whether it would be a waste of my time writing it and your time reading it. any advice would be appreciated.

Depot is mega. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Dont ever go on the sick.

Always assume you are being watched/tested.

Keep a sense of humour throughout, everyone else is suffering just as much as you are.

Work hard...FITNESS WINS JOE! :D

Arnhem platoon, Boy are you going to have fun Joe!!

Just remember when you're getting beasted it's all for a reason, just do it then forget about it once you're done. If you let it get to you then you'll start to dread getting up of a morning. Just accept all the crap that's thrown at you as all part of course and you'll be fine.

Get ready for plenty of cobwebs though, after all you've got to build up those tabbing muscles!!

Oh and one last thing, you've got a fantastic training team so if you do what they tell you and learn what they teach you they'll turn you into a hardcore Paratrooper in those 28 weeks, no doubt about it.

Was never a Para, Twas a Bootneck but take it as read your going to get it in the neck for your first few weeks mate.

Come some Godforsaken time in the morning your not going to be sure whether to wind your neck or scratch you watch. Tis what they do you see.

Anyway Hal enjoy, crack it and then come back and pass on your info to the wannerbies. OK?

cheers guys, good words of encouragement there from all of you...thankyou. BTW, in my joining instructions it says that "you get sent home for 14 days leave and POSSIBLY a further 10 days before joining your battalion". did many of you get those 10 days after depot??

Its a long way off yet....but yes, i got 2 weeks off then i went straight to Brize Norton for 7 weeks and then to my battalion.

Dont take that as gospel though. Some lads in my platoon who went to 1 and 2 para had to do Guard duty for 2 weeks before going to Brize Norton.
