SFSG and FPG
Do you have to be in FPG to do SFSG?
If so is it a case of applying to go to FPG and staring at submarines until the opportunity arises?
Cheers.

Alright mate, i know most lads go through FPG and it was them that run the course for it a few years back. Id of thought that; seen as the bootneck companys well established now they may have a branch liar or similiar, im sure in the last edition of the globe and buster there was an Article on F company SFSG (the RM Det) and quite possibly a contact number at the bottom, wouldnt queens it but im quite sure there is.

Alright royal. You are supposed to be at FPG to do the SFSG acquaint, but that said I have had friends who have wangled their way onto an acquaint without having to come up to fassers, but as it's the CO up here that decides who goes to SFSG, the chances of you getting on an acquaint without spending time up here are pretty slim. Faslane is having a big re-jig in terms of fardrum and its structure though, so it won't be quite so bad anymore, and if you're keen, with operational experience, you should definitely get on the next available acquaint. Case in point my mate, who was only behind the wire for a month before going on the acquaint.
They only run like two a year (i'm on the next one, as long as i'm not deployed) so it just depends when you get up here as to how long you'll be waiting for. Heard good dits about it anyway, plus you get a jumps course, drives course and opportunities you don't get in 3CDO brigade. Sorry about the ramble, hope the advice helps.

Obviously I'm not Royal - thank f*ck , but I can tell you that this is the place to be if you're a keen bloke looking to get deployed on some interesting work. Particularly if you're looking to go Tier 1 SF and and want some operational experience of their work. Get your ass to sunny Wales.
There is no fear, there is only the force.
Do or do not, there is no try.

Sneaks,
FPG is Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines at Faslane, Scotland, responsible for the security of the nation's nucleur fleet. Crap job, but something in the paperwork says it has to be Bootnecks apparently.
SFSG is Special Forces Support Group, which I believe is made up in the main part of a Company of Bootnecks plus a Para battalion (1 Para?). They work at Company level attatched to an SF squadron in a support role (bet you hadn't guessed that bit ), basically providing manpower for less specialised tasks.

lol, I actually meant the whole unit not just the RAF lad's, but it doesn't matter too much.Airborne Legend wrote:The RAF Reg guys are just integrated into one of our companies, you wouldn't even know they were there, I've only ever seen about 10 of them!
I won't get into what the PDF said on here, I know the MOD's ect don't like stuff like that being talked about.
