Essential Kit for H9

Post by davo141 »

With the impending deployment ive already wrapped on much pusser kit, the new 08 desert webbing is quite frankly shit. Its massive for a start so im going to use the older stuff and stick the pouches on my osprey out there.

Just got me wondering, what would the lads out in theatre wishing they had or glad they took.

Or what will the lads that have been out before making sure they take this time?

Cheers fellas.

As you're gonna be stuck on Bastion mate...

Laptop with TV receiver USB thingy and aerial
Something to make your cotbed more comfortable
Speakers for laptop, or a decent TV in comfort box (can be bought in NAAFI but not cheap)
Pussers desert webbing useless, never used it, in fact stuck just to Osprey plus daysack; take Arktis just in case.
Cards and poker chips
Books
If you smoke, buy fags at Kabul or KAF, there's no yanks at Bastion and the NAAFI is twice as expensive as Yank PXs. If you're happy on Chogey fags then it's cheap as chips anyhow, market used to be a Thursday I think. The knock off DVDs work mostly, but check them straight away so you can take the ones back that don't!

cheers druadan, fortuently i wont be spending much time in BSN as im in the viking support role and will be mainly been rotated round the fobs and mogs. least that way we'll get out on the ground aswel as 3 Batallion REME are doing most ofthe VMing at Bastion.

Going to try and get some webbing this week ready for MRX (you on it are you?).

Not a dirty smoker but will be trying to send some bck from KAF to make a few bob on!

Going to try and get my self to KAF as much as possible with the viking troop that might possibly be based out of there for the QRF. Other than that where gonna be around 45 in the northern half and the Gurkas in teh south. Dont think the 1st Rifles are having a viking assest as there on BSN security appently!

BSN is Camp Bastion, both parts. We had a brief of the OC and he outlined the rough mission idea or the tour.

MR. Rose 3 Bat is he! Where going to be working wih them for the first part of the MRX if he is!! it is indeed a small world!

Safe return to you all :D

Sorry mate, wrong end of stick  Definitely get an alternative to the issue desert vest, it is crap, I used an Arktis cop vest last time (so long as you haven't got a mega-pussers OC). For vehicle mounted ops the Osprey and a day-sack's fine, but if you go on foot you'll need more pouches. Having said that, people lack Blackhawk make the worlds allocation of pouches to fit the strapping on Osprey, so if you want to buy your own you can basically turn your body armour into full on webbing.

Also get a single magazine pouch to strap on the foregrip to save you carrying a magazine around in your pocket on camp, which is a royal pain in the arse.

Desert belt.

Might see you out there mate.

On H8 we were not carrying round weapons in bsn. not sure how your headshed are going to play it, but we were ordered not to. fcuking bone in my opinion. its your personal protection from kidnap, whatever. the SFSG had their Sigs with them, and some of our lot had them, but everyone else (bar the yanks) didnt have weapons.

Make sure youve got your spanners mate, and a small paint brush for brushing away dust on your weapon!
