It was an alright book. I preferred the book Hidden Soldier by Padraig O'Keeffe in which he describes his time through training and then being posted to the 6th REG (Foregin Legion sappers and engineers) and doing tours in Cambodia, Sarajevo and Bosnia. The final third of the book he goes into detail about his time as a private security contractor in Iraq where he was the sole survivor of a convoy ambush in al-Habaniyah with Hart Security.

Certainly have sky ninja steve, it's a good account of the deployment with lots of photos. The cheapest you'll find it is at the link below.

While not a book about British Paras another good book is The Last Valley by Martin Windrow.
It's about the French defeat at Dien Bien Phu in Indochina, it starts off quite slow as the author goes into a lot of detail on the background and make up of the various peoples who made up Indochina but once past that it's a great read with plenty of accounts of battles were Paras from the Foreign Legion and Colonial Parachute Regiments were parachuted in to try and turn the tide of battle during the various forays out of the Delta as well as, of course, an in-depth description of the battle for Dien Bien Phu itself.
SO19, what's with the stars you've added to the original post, are they to show the books you have read personally? And if that's the case what did you think of "First in! Parachute Pathfinder Company"? Sounds like it could be a good read.

Alfa, if you can find a copy of it then it's well worth it. It follows the 21st Independent Parachute Company (1st Airborne) through it's time in Europe, North Africa & the mid-east, 42-46. It's an old title, so best bet is to hold out until it appears on ebay, which is a lot cheaper than buying it from these small online bookshops who charge a fortune.
The ones with stars btw are either books I have, or have read.

I didn't see "Freefall" there by Tom Read (Charles 'Nish' Bruce). Well worth a read for anybody interested in the Para Regt.
It's a strange book as it deals with the author's mental illness as much as anything else but there's plenty in there about his military background and exploits in the Paras and SAS. Both are described without the macho posturing of 'Spud' Ely or Vincent Bramley but it can be a bit harrowing and it's not one for a down day.....especially because....
SPOILER
Here's what eventually happened to the author:

"Fighting Scared" by Robin Horsfall is worth a look. He details his time in 2 Para in the 1970s before moving on to the SAS. "CQB" by Mike Curtis is another good one, and Michael Asher's "Shoot To Kill" might be worth a look too. I've ordered John Geddes' book so will hopefully add a review of it when I'm done.
Remember, knowledge is power, unless you forget it all.
