Accommodation & attestation?

Post by Stinky »

I have been told there are diffrent grades of accommodation on Catterick, and some not so good. I realize I am being a bit greedy here but how do they organize who goes into what kind of rooms? Is it first come get the best or the worst. It might be completely random I know but knowledge is power .
What is the attestation? Is it just to look at what I will be doing?
Thanks

Aye, Tab's right.

If you can, look for an orderly chappie (ie no rank on his shirt lapel), recognise them by the band round the wrist with this sign on it:

They allocate rooms etc, just tell him you got there early to bag the best barracks & he should help you out.

How do you get there early? :-?
I thought you all went on trains and turned up there around the same time and are met by the staff.

Attestment is where you go and formally enlist in the army, swearing your oath etc. Did it last week in Taunton, all you do is go in and theyll take you upstairs, the Sjt will talk through with you about the contract etc and make sure all details are correct, then you get taken upstairs to swear your oath to a Major. Then sign on the dotted lines and thats that!

If you meant a completely different thing, my bad.

Stinky, the accomodation is based on Regiments (or Divisions in most cases) ie; each Regiment/Div has their own accomodation block, so it's not a matter of whether or not you personally get allocated a good room.

As it happens though you've lucked out as The Rifles are in one of the new blocks so they should be pretty decent.

You will get trained with fellow rifles, so you will be in the rifles accomidation because you are training to be in the rifles.
If you were training for paras you'd go with other paras in training and go in the para accomidation, or if you were training for guards you would be with guards and stay in the guards accomidation.
Gettit.

When you go to attest youll get a cool folder like thing with your certificates and information about catterick etc. On it has the address of the 3 companies in the 1st Infantry Training Battalion (of which were part of). 1 is the The Rifles, another Prince of Wales's and the other one is the Kings Divison.

Once you read the whole booklet and the letter from the CO of The Rifles at Catterick its pretty obvious you are going to be put with and be trained with other people wanting to join The Rifles.

When is your basic date again Stinky? Im going up this Sunday so I might see you around whenever you start.
