Joining the Navy as an Officer

Post by skydriver »

Alright all,

I am really new to this forum, just been looking around and there is loads of useful info, its great.

I wanted to know if you think its worth joining the Navy. I am currently 20yrs old and have wanted to join the Navy since I was about 12-13yrs old. I initially couldnt join because of asthma but I am now 4 yrs clear of that so I am eligible to join.

I initially wanted to join as a rating, but I have been looking at the officers job and I really like the look of that, the only problem being is that I dont have the UCAS points I need.

Do you think it would be worth studying for 2 years and then joining, or would it just be better to join as a rating?

I dont mind the studying and I would like to be a pilot and being an officer is the only way I would be able to fly.

Also would it look good for me if I took private lessons and learnt to fly?

Thanks

Nick

I would say I would go straight into the navy, but that's because I hate school etc. But if you don't mind it, you should because you have plenty of time to join and being a pilot would be the best.

If the life in the RN appeals to you then go for it, you could do a dam sight worse.

Try looking on Rum Ration (just google it). So much info on there. I start basic training in 5 weeks - it's been a great help during the whole aplication/joining process.
Good Luck

Im currently a Leading hand in the RN just passed selection for Dartmouth to train as a Pilot. If all you want to do is become an officer and fly then i suggest you get your points and apply. You have plenty of time before your 26th birhtday!

Not sure about the ashma thing but there is a handy thread on rumration

If you are not in a hurry to be a Pilot then you could join as a rating but expect it not to be easy to transfer over and there will be no gaurentees, trust me on that one!

My Dad used to be a Lynx pilot, he seems to have enjoyed it.
You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.

It`s Nandroleen, but I`ll never tell.
Was Daddy Royal, Jack, Crab or Perce then? :-?

My Daddy was a bankrobber, but he never hurt no body.
He just loved to live that way and he loved to steal your money 8)
