Did the Government actually end up cutting PARA training?
I read about the Government putting a ban on Para Jumps for the Regiment until 2011. Did they actually do through with this process? I read the other thread on the issue, but it seemed to suggest that there was never a formal annoucement on the matter. Does this mean if I were to try and join the Para Regiment that I would not actually get to jump until 2011?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Don't worry about what you read in the papers at this stage.
If the Canadian Army was resourceful enough to maintain jump training one way or another through the Decade of Darkness, rest assured the Brits will find a way.
Focus on getting in, its not going to be easy, jump training or not.
Where just north of Toronto are you anyway?

I know where Newmarket is RAFRH, I've been there about 100 million times to visit relatives, I've worked in most of the public schools and helped build one of your water treatment plants on Bayview Pkwy.

HAHA Thanks EH!
Right now I am looking at all my options. At first it was all Infantry for me, I have always had an interest in it and both my Grandfathers served in the Infantry in the war- One in Britian (he was British) so it would be nice to carry on that tradition. Then after I had my heart set on that, I did some reading about the RAF Regiment and thought maybe that was the way to go. Now I am just looking all all options available to me, and making a decison. I am 99% sure now that I will end up going with the Infantry, it is just a matter of deciding if that will be line or para.
I like the idea of the challenge of the Parachute Regiment; not to say that line would not also be a challenge mind you; but the elite nature of it. Unfortunatly like others have said here much of the attraction for me would be actually doing some Parachute jumps ect.

Yeah nice one, I'm sure your rocket scientist mate has got all the gen.Element wrote:Heard the same from my 7RHA mate, apparently they giving them the wings anyway to fit in with the reg. Im not a para so dont hold me to it.
Since when was any qualification badge just given away, never mind one so hard to earn? Even if for some stange reason this was to happen, don't you think that the lads who had earnt thier wings rip them off the crow's arms and beast the living daylights out of them?

Who cares, i was contributing on what ive heard to this specific topic reguardless to how believeble it is. How about instead of challenging what im saying, you can confirm what this Rafreghopefull lad is actually asking given your current regiment.Greenronnie wrote:I read your post you mong, I wasn't holding you to anything, just explaining what a ridiculous comment your mate made and how you must have been solid to believe it.Element wrote:Read my post again i think the key words are "dont hold me to this"... 1. I wasn't challenging what you were saying, I was demonstrating what a stupid statement it was.Element wrote:Who cares, i was contributing on what ive heard to this specific topic reguardless to how believeble it is. 2. This subject has been done to death here, and for all your info, no the courses haven't been cancelled.
3. As for my "current" regiment, I have served 19 years so far, so it's not a temporary thing mate.
