Hi
I'm seriously considering putting my application in for a warfare officer in the Royal Navy and would appreciate it if anyone could look over my "skills".
I'm an 18 year old, 5ft 6" slim, fit, healthy female.
I am expecting the results from my A levels and am fairly confident I will get the necessary points to qualify as an officer. I have a bronze Duke of Edinburgh award in which I learnt to Snowboarding, Photography and did 6 months voluntary service at my local fire station. I have enjoyed being part of a team since I was young. Entering different clubs and organisations ranging from Brownies to the debate "team" in my high school.
I enjoy walking, swimming, kayaking an socialising.
I would greatly appreciate any help or critique anyone could give me. Is there anything in particular in need to do or you think will be picked up on in my interview?
Also, if you join as a rating is it possible to become an officer later on? And do the officers use the information reported back to them by ratings or do they actually do the hands on work as well..? Basically if I joined as an officer would I just be management or would I be able to actually use the skills in a hands on way?
Thanks for any help! x

Welcome aboard Clare.
That looks good enough to me mate. We`ve got a few Jennys on here ,though most are outside now and the still serving are either away on Ops or are on terminal leave. We do not have any female RN Officers. Drop a pm to Jo Jo, she`s still fairly current

I've gone in an spoke to an advisor but I thought of more questions afterwards than while there..lol Most of them are only small ones.
Mainly I was wondering why some people (no offence meant) maybe look down on ratings. Some of the posts I've read have made me wonder that if I joined as a rating would I be doing more cleaning an such than actual skilled work that I'd been trained to do? I don't mind contributing and doing my share of course.
I guess I'm just wondering the smaller details of life in the Navy.

Depends on what trade Ratings go for really. Join the Navy and see the world. And then clean the Bastard as our old mate OHMMS retired was fond of saying. "Get to like the smell of Flash" was another of his gems
HM Ships get very dirty very quickly and constant cleaning and good housekeeping are essential in a close confined environment. And that applies particularly to our own little pink bods.
No one looks down on Ratings, especially on here. It may seem like sometimes we do but we`ve got loads of respect for Jack and some of the jobs he has to do.
Just don`t tell any of the useless b`stards I said so

I`m not helping you at all love. All the information is out there
What would you really like to do in the Andrew, irrespective of rank? What would your ideal job be?

To navigate or use radar and sonar on a ship and be part of a crew.. Nothing fancy and I don't really mind where I start or end. So hopefully I'm going into warfare or as a seaman specialist. I know all the information is out there but it doesnt really explain on the website or in booklets the differences between certain parts of the branches and the small details of living on ships.
I do really appreciate any help or info you can give.
