Foriegn armys.

Post by James82ah »

How come, in order to join the armys of our commonwealth friends (canada, australia, new zealand) we brits have to become proper citizens of those countrys , which is not possible for me (no skills/qualifications). Yet they can join our army no probs? I was interested in maybe joining the australian army, if my plan to join the Royal Marines fails. I figured that since they are commonwealth, that'd probably be cool. They were very helpfull, but the answers no. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :drinking:

Thers nothing wrong with being prepared is there? I'm well aware of how diffficult it is to succeed in getting into the marines, and am making further plans so I have plenty of ideas to fall back on if I fail, and am not invited back to try again. These include, My local army unit. The N zealand army, the Australian Army, The Canadian army (I have family in Canada, might make it easier) and yes, also the foriegn legion.

Open enough biscuit tins, and I'm bound to get a cookie!

The Royal Marines are however my main interest.

When i had a careers interview for HM Forces, they asked me what i would do if i didn't get in as an officer; i said i would quite happily join at a lower level. They looked and me sideways and were obviously unimpressed. If you have an ambition aim for it, don't worry or think about anything else, or the other options, just go for your number one aim and don't be distracted from that aim. :)

As an aussie i know that there is quite a few brits in our forces. Im pretty sure that most if not all of them are citizens. There may maybe some loopholes eg: tertiary courses to get you qualified to come over.

According to the Ausie defence force website, you do have to be an Australian citizen to join the forces. However, it is possible for people serving in commonwealth forces to get transfered. And the number of Britons in the Australian forces probably has something to do with Australia being a popular emmigration destination over here perhaps?
