Once in the army, one of the first things you'll do is learn to drive. It's part of the training. At the moment, I'm quite frustrated with the RAF. I sent them an email asking if they taught people to drive because I don't have a licence at the moment. They have not replied at all.

On the RAF website it says "Ring........." but then below it says "If you prefer, you can email us." They should have added "We won't reply." Bastards :bad-words:

The army look after you all the way through the recruiting process. :)

Guardian of the Wall,
UTTER BOLLOX!!!!!

Driving is NOT....are you reading this NOT!!! part of Army training.
(unless your trade dictates that it is an essential part of your job that is)

You will only get driving lessons paid for by the military if you need to be able to drive to successfully do your job, and only once you have progressed to your trade training.

Get your facts right before spouting your drivel. If you dont know then keep stum?? Capiche??
Good, Glad we've got that straight

EXREG,
But did you need to be able to drive to successfully do your job?? ie to drive a Land Rover etc??

It wasnt just part and parcel of basic training and your god given right as soon as you joined the Army.
Did you have to wait til you were in a Unit or in Trade Training??
That is the point I was making

Please explain a bit more, cos I think you may be more current than I am.

is STILL a load of bollox.

The only way you would do it in training is if you joined as an RLC driver or the tankys....but then you'd be a screaming crap hat :-?

I had to do Cat B in order to obtain CAT C which i am now doing, to drive WMIK's with heavy weapons such as AGL and 50 Cal, otherwise i wouldn't of got on one. If they need drivers, you will get a course, if not you won't, simple. Think of it like this, you wanna be a sniper but the sniper platoon is full, they aint going to run a cadre and train people up if they don't need them. Now if a couple of people are soon to leave the platoon then they need to run one to fill the places.

That should make sense as its the same with everything, so no knitting course's or anything else they try to tell you to get you to join!!!

Well nearly every job in the careers guide says you can gain your DL so I don't see how you will avoid getting it. Unless of course you become an Air Tech.
