SMOKING KILLS!!!

I would of placed this on the Obituaries but dad was never a booty just the proud father of one.
19-01-03. I am very sad to inform the world that Ex RSM Eric Pinington RAOC pasted away yesterday aged 67. For 25 or more years dad was Felix the Cat, the armys bomb disposal man. He served all over the world including many a tour in Northern Ireland in the sixtys and seventys. His last tour was along side 45 Cdo in Belfast and he always said to me that he was never more protected or felt more safe than when the marines were providing the cordon at an incident. The IRA could not kill my dad but smoking did, he had smoked all his life until a few years ago when he had to stop due to the fact he had to have his voice box removed, cancer moved through his body over the past two years and finaly killed him this week. If you ever needed an incentive to stop smoking you only had to see what my dad had become both physically and mentally. Dad had played rugby at the higest level in his twentys and thirtys, looked after eight kids with what little money a Cpl/Sgt made back then and I do believe he would of lived ten or so more years had he not smoked.
The family will lay dad to rest on Friday and I would say to any one that is still smoking " have a go and quite"

Miss you Dad :(

Heaven must have a Bomb scare, thay have called for the best to put it right.

Ginge,
You are right to be VERY proud of your dad, he was obviously a very bave and dedicated man, but I guess, like all his kind, he would never admit to it, people like hime seldom do.

The consequences of smoking is something that we each think will not happen to us, I am lucky, I gave up from a 30 a day man to nil, some 4 years ago.... but I still, even if its for a nano second, think I would like one, I don't coz I know that just one would lead to twenty.

Ginge, my heart goes out to you, and may your God help you through this terrible time.
My Condolences to you and your family
Aye
Mike

Ps I would consider the Obituary forum on this site to be for all Military personel as there is only one for the whole site.... I may be proved wrong?..............(Jay..HH..RP)?

Hi Ginge, My sincerest condolences on the loss of your father. I always had the utmost respect for the bomb disposal guys. I still treasure my FELIX mug, presented to me by the boys from the bomb disposal after I was wounded while serving with 40 cdo in Belfast 1972. Yes, the RM units always took pride in offering the bomb disposal teams the very best protection possible while they undertook an extremely dangerous task.

Your point about smoking and it's consequences should be heeded. Again, my condolences.

Aye - Andy.

We can only look on in sympathy at your tragic loss Ginge, but your post demonstrates that your dad was an example to us all for a job well done. Perhaps it will bring home the fact that cancer does not respect the brave, and it will help someone about to give up smoking, to take the next positive step.
Yours aye

My thoughts are with you and your family at this time. It matters not where or who your dad served with, but the fact that he did, and obviously with pride.

From hard men the softest words are always spoken, Dad would of loved to have had a pint and a chat with each and everyone of you, he was made of the same stuff as all bootys and filled with just as much pride.

THANK YOU from all the PININGTON family.
