Slow speed and search probs

Post by harry hackedoff »

Heyup, besides the slow speed of the site of late, I`ve noticed the Search facility has gone to ratshit :-? Searching for very specific terms which used to throw up five or six posts seems to have deteriorated to the point of being almost useless. Same search now throws up 3542 posts, seriously.
Try this, I know there is a thread about a jokey "help the Nods" idea. Full of "top tips for those about to join" 8) I know what I wrote on that thread but if I search for it I get three thousand plus posts. So then I refined my search, Shoulders used the words "hexy bloke" as a spelling error, Mutley used the words "kidney hatch" Enter those words and there should only be one post that comes up. That`s the post I`m searching for. Apart from this post, no other post has the words Kidney Hatch in, so what the fork has gone wrong with it?
Why isn`t Search searching proper?
Anyone else having similar probs or what :-?

ON THE ROAD TO GUNDAGAI by Anonymous
Oh, we started down from Roto when the sheds had all cut out.
We'd whips and whips of Rhino as we meant to push about,
So we humped our blues serenely and made for Sydney town,
With a three-spot cheque between us, as wanted knocking down.

Chorus
But we camped at Lazy Harry's, on the road to Gundagai.
The road to Gundagai! Not five miles from Gundagai!
Yes, we camped at Lazy Harry's, on the road to Gundagai.

Well, we struck the Murrumbidgee near the Yanko in a week,
And passed through old Narrandera and crossed the Burnet Creek.
And we never stopped at Wagga, for we'd Sydney in our eye.
But we camped at Lazy Harry's, on the road to Gundagai.

Oh, I've seen a lot of girls, my boys, and drunk a lot of beer,
And I've met with some of both, chaps, as has left me mighty queer;
But for beer to knock you sideways, and for girls to make you sigh,
You must camp at Lazy Harry's, on the road to Gundagai.

Well, we chucked our blooming swags off, and we walked into the bar,
And we called for rum-an'-raspb'ry and a shilling each cigar.
But the girl that served the pizen, she winked at Bill and I —
And we camped at Lazy Harry's, not five miles from Gundagai.

In a week the spree was over and the cheque was all knocked down,
So we shouldered our "Matildas," and we turned our backs on town,
And the girls they stood a nobbler as we sadly said "Good bye,"
And we tramped from Lazy Harry's, not five miles from Gundagai.

The search database and keywords needs a good clear out, gawd thats gonna take me all day guv! ;)

The slowness im aware of, been monitoring the server activity for the last week and a bit, outside connections on certain ISP's is not too brilliant as well.

Once again working on it... :-?

I'm not lazy, just in and out of hospital too often, 3 farking hours yesterday waiting just to see my consultant! :x
Could be doing better things like fixing the search function. ;)
At least im finally on the waiting list for my operation, prob 12 months to wait!

The search database has now been rebuilt and recompiled.
Lets see if this solves any search issues.

Alot of time has been spent looking into why the server hosting Military Forums and Military Fitness & Training has recently been running slow.
The server is now running at normal speed, also hopefully with the upgrade this coming Monday, we will see further improvements.

12 months for an op?! Then again, this is the norm for emergency cases! Can sympathise with being in and out of hosp, hope all goes well on that front until your op.

Back on topic, I've noticed the slowness more so on the wonderful DII than at home. I thought it could be down to the lunchtime rush and people looking at issues to do with today's terror arrests and personal holiday disruptions but I note other sites seem to be reasonably reacting against it. Perhaps a swift brass boot kick up the server might bring an increase in speed?....

Perhaps not :)

Jay, its taken me five minutes to get in tonight, I'm afraid you will be losing members unless the problem is sorted, which would be a great pity

I'm sorry for the problems caused Owdun.
Were trying to get the server that hosts MF and MF&T upgraded sometime this week or beginning of next.
