Well first of all to go on the course you have to apply for the RAF, pass the AST (airmen selection test) and then a selection interview. You the have your medical. Then once that is out the way your then allocated a slot on the 3 day PGAC.
It takes place at RAF Honington in Suffolk, the home of the Regiment.
On day one, you have your first fitness assesment, which is the bleep test (level 9.01, approx 10 minute running time) then straight after you do 10 press ups, and 25 sit ups (if you cant do those then there really is no helping you!) Then after that your off to the pool for your swim test. Really straight forward, swim from one end of the pool to the other without touching the sides (25m pool).
Day two, youll do your block jobs in the morning (hoovering etc for inspection) Then your off for your 3 mile run. This is 3 miles in 24 minutes, the PT takes you round, simply follow behind, easy stuff.
Then youll go back to your accomodation and prepare for the night living exercise. You get taught how to pack your bergen, and prepare for the 3k tab to the harbour area. The bergen ways about 10Kg and the run can be quite taxing, but again if your fit, shouldnt be a problem. You then spend the night in the field.
Day three you march back to your accomodation for wash/shave etc and then you have your end of course interviews. Then depart.
Note: Discipline is enforced from the start, you get shouted at alot, but its all to give you an idea of what the TG course will be like. And as they say, they shout at you for a reason so take note of what they are telling you.
The fitness tests are a very basic level of what you will need for the TG course, im sure alot of the more expericned guys on the forum will tell you the same.
The whole reason for the course is to give you an insight of the TG course, your chance to look at the regiment and see if it is for you. They tell you to treat it as one long job interview, becuase your being assest all the time by the corporals instructing you. Plus if you pass the course, it doesent mean your now tied to jopining the regiment, you can decline the offer and go for another trade.
Try visiting http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafregiment Some of the information is a little dated but it will give you an outline of what to expect and also some history and honours of the regiment.
If you have any other questions please ask ill try to help the best i can

All in all its down to luck, i know some guys who applied in December 2005, got on the Feburary PGAC, then got the offer of sevice for April 2006. So for them from AST to offer of service was 5 months. I personally applied in July last year, then had to wait until October, November to sit my AST and have selection interview then February PGAC etc. This was due to the Regiment Gunner trade closing
. So maybe a good question to ask when you next visit your AFCO would be how likely is it that the gunner trade may close? Because this could consiterably set back your time in joining the Regiment.
Any more questions just ask!

Yeah its about 4/6 months (could be longer if your 16 turning 17 - my case)
I went to the AFCO in august, took the AST (airman selection tests) in october butim not 17 until june so i have the interview + medical, PGAC and other interview between april and june.
so like boney said, pritty much luck, all depends on how many lads are joining up at one given time.
