A real story of marksmanship:
In early 2000, a Royal Marine marksman, Corporal Matt Hughes was tasked to take out an enemy soldier who was preventing the advance of his unit during a sand storm.
He recounted: "I knew I only had one shot and had to get the angle exactly right. It was hot and the wind was blowing strongly from left to right as we crept up to a vantage point about 860 metres from the target. I saw I had a clear shot at my man; he thought he was in a secure position but he had exposed his head and chest."
Corporal Hughes then assumed a perfect sniper position and opened fire. His 7.62mm round curved 56 feet (about 17m) into the air before smashing into the enemy soldier's chest, killing him instantly. At that very moment, Hughes' partner also eliminated another enemy soldier.
