What an interesting thread this has turned into again.
First off I have to say I agree mostly with whitey, she should make the record straight as she doesn’t deserve that medal when good men have died and not been awarded anything...
It’s also nice to see an American with a different point of view on his government and not the stereotypical (well were American so we must be doing this right)...
Name calling will get you know where on this site though...
ohh one more thing why do allot of Americans join the navy???

Well Lew,
This break down is from my observation after serving in the Navy as a Corpsman with the Marine infantry and then doing 4 years in the Army.
Most Sailors come from middle class families that can't afford college tutition. The Navy has some really nice schools and you get to travel more than the other branches generally. You learn a good skill there and college money, travel and pay. It's a win win situation for guys like me who's family wasn't poor, yet didn't have 30 thousand for 4 years of university education.
The Amry is made up mostly, not all but mostly the lower classes. You'll find a garden variety of ex-gang members, white trash and a huge influx of minorities there. Only 15% of soldiers that leave the Army actually use their college money and of that only 6% earn a 4 year degree. The Army socially sucks from experience and the word is out. Good kids except for the hard heads stay away from it. I was a hard head.
The Marines, who I spent most of my navy time with are the same middle class kids that sailors are, yet they are more athletic as a group, want to Rambo, but have heard about how Ghetto the Army is, so they become Marines.
The Air Force I haven't worked with much. What I've seen are good, clean very by the book technitians who want a comfortable military life and to serve their country as well.
Not all these generalizations apply to every community in every service though. The USAF has its Air Commandos who go through hell Just as the Navy has its Seals, the Marines their Aircraft Mechanics and so on. However in general this is the make up of characters in each branch.
The Coast Guard is more less a jod, same people that make up fire departments tend to go there.
If the Army wasn't so hip on Ebonics and promoting idiots then I'd guess the Navy would have some competition in recruiting. The Army seems to be pro-Black and anti- White. I'm sure some will disagree, but I just have to call it as I see it.

Let them call me a rebel and I welcome it, I feel no concern from it; but I should suffer the misery of demons were I to make a whore of my soul. (Thomas Paine)
