A Republic, heh, USARMY?! Well, you can't have everything. And we're keeping Her Majesty over here. If anyone's looking for a real world class "statesman" she's gotta be it.

The sooner we declare an absolute monarchy and she starts beheading some of her ministers, the better.

Del it's possible for you two to agree on one thing. USArmy probably gets the red mist everytime he sees Ossie and his friends, whereas we get it when we see McGunness and Adams wandering freely into 10 Downing Street, only a decade after their mates mortared the place.

DelD-

"threatening me with your military might",

you started that one with

"Hey USARMY,
I've just had a thought.
If your country is harbouring known terrorists does that mean we can go to the UN and get a resolution to invade?
I guess if we did though we'd only go as far as Texas so we'd at least get some oil out of the deal as well.
That is how the system works is it?"

So is that how it works in your kneck of the woods? You run your mouth with out Consequence. You picked a fight, I'm simply willing to oblige.

Gash-hand name one terrorist that THE US GOVERNMENT is harbouring.

USarmy, it is a wel known fact that US forces and CIA have been training terrorists for years (i hate the name "terrorist". one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter).

for the whole of the 80s, america was conducting missions with osama bin laden against the red army, then for no apparant reason, CIA tried to kill him. he has the right to be a little p*ssed off at america (still not the right to do what he did tho. he is a bad man.).

the whole of south america has been messed around with by US trained terrorists. a sizeable portion of the population of southern florida are what could be called terrorists.

i suggest that you all read "rogue state" by william blum. in some places, it is obvious that he is on the payrole of very evil people (including slobadan milosevic), but in others he really puts across a valid point.

Peds-as far as the book, I will read it. But I doubt I'll have the same reaction as you to these alleged "crimes".

Are you really asking why the US supported the Afghans in their struggle against the Soviets? I would think this would be obvious. The CIA, US Army, DEA etc has trained lot's of people. These groups have gotten what they wanted money, training, weapons, and support from my government My government also got what it wanted out of the deal. And when certain people got a little to big for their britches, well you can guess the consequence. If you don't think all governments do this you are crazy. The USA is the only super power left in the world so people from other countries are naturally envious, weary, and not to mention hypocritical of our policies. Let me ask you a question, what do think South America would be like with out American intervention? And as far as "a sizeable portion of the population of southern florida are what could be called terrorists." I've lived in South Florida since I was 8 years old. The only people I guess you could be referring to are the Cuban exiles, but most of these people are completely unwilling to fight for their peoples freedom, that's why they're here. It's alot easier to float over to the States, benefit from our system then it is to take decisive action.

"Are you really asking why the US supported the Afghans"

Well, oh wise one, do you want to tell us who the "Afghans" are? The point is that the CIA etc blah, blah had the great idea of arming and training religious fanatics and fundamentalists. It seemed like a good, cheap way to exert US influence in the area but I would suggest that your government got a tad more than it wanted out of the deal.

Iran contras, anyone?

True enough Harry. Although I should point out that it's not just the US at fault - anyone remember Matrix Churchill??

I don't want to give the idea that I'm anti-American, I would just welcome some of its devoted citizens exercising a critical faculty (probably not going to find many visiting here) - especially when it comes to the lives of so many. Blind acceptance and 'you're either with us or against us' were characteristics of the regimes of Hitler, Stalin and Mao - to name but three.

Right, off soapbox, count to three....and reeeelax.....

USArmy, what you are experiencing is the free thought process that goes with our non-doctrinal approach to life. We don't have to believe everything "They" tell us, and we don't, not through stubborness or just because being bolshie is easier; it's more to do with trust, and we don't trust suits who cannot/will not be straight with us. When Bush/Blair come clean with 'evidence' we will back them, but this continous blathering and hedging around the subject of facts, while placing our team in view of an enemy isn't good for our sense of humour.
When we served we did what we were told when we were told, no questions asked or expected; now we are in our own time and space we can take a more pragmatic view, and from my vantage point the view sucks. Until they tell me otherwise.

You? :o
Pragmatic?
Farrrk off.
Aussie P.M. is on a world tour, this weekend.
Dubya and Tone.
Watch the guy. He comes across like a guy you could meet in the boozer.
Not at all like the sanctimonious twat living in Downing St. Apparently, he`s a cult
John Howard was at some religious service today, and the bish of Oz(thinking they couldn`t be overheard) tried to earhole Howard about Iraq.
"Don`t you tell me about war. You don`t have the monopoly. I hate war.I`m the one who has to make the decisions"
He went up by several hundred percent, in my humble opinion.
I like the guy, but you can make your own mind up on the weekend.
yours, Aye
