The film was "Operation Daybreak" based on the book "Seven Men at Daybreak."
Nice one.

I thought that Hamburger Hill was quite good. Casualties of war is another 'nam one.

The Fall of the Roman Empire I think the name is. Was one of my favorite films when I was younger. They dont make films like that any more.

Dont know if anyone has mentioned Shindiler's List (spelling?) but I nearly cry every time I see it. Its a work of art.

I think it's all to do with perception. I love old films like "Battle of the River Plate", "In Which We Serve" and yesterday I watched "Ice Cold In Alex".

What's great about modern films though is the realism. "Band of Brothers" was excellent for that.

It's a pity the British film industry doesn't have the money to put out a decent war epic just now because I'm starting to think that only the Yanks were there.

I cannot believe that I am the first to mention:

Dambusters

633 Sqn

Reach For the Sky

The RAF recruiting video with me doing the Weapon Handling voice overs and starring in the role as NBC Instructor running the gas chamber.

Those were great movies too. So was Battle of Britain. I'm sure they were all mentioned in the "top 100" but whose top 100 was it - certainly not mine.

Not something you go around admitting to!
Where did you get the 1940's Carry on Sgt Major accent from? It's certainly not issue anymore!

Does anybody agree with me that they can't make good films any more?
Think back to the good War Films they used to make 40 years ago - and when did they last make a good Western?
Modern films make me cringe. If I look through my Sky programme, any film that is made after about 1990 is binned.
Maybe I am getting old, but today's movie stars, just don't cut it.

Have you seen Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven (1991)?

To a large extent I agree with you though. The large majority of my favourite films were made in the '70s.

To a large extent I blame Hollywood for that. They churn out so much crap you start to resent all the ersatz action movies. I think about 1 in every 100 is a good film.

You can't beat a good British war movie - come on the team! :P
