I think it's all to do with perception. I love old films like "Battle of the River Plate", "In Which We Serve" and yesterday I watched "Ice Cold In Alex".
What's great about modern films though is the realism. "Band of Brothers" was excellent for that.
It's a pity the British film industry doesn't have the money to put out a decent war epic just now because I'm starting to think that only the Yanks were there.
Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam!
Those were great movies too. So was Battle of Britain. I'm sure they were all mentioned in the "top 100" but whose top 100 was it - certainly not mine.

Not something you go around admitting to!
Where did you get the 1940's Carry on Sgt Major accent from? It's certainly not issue anymore!
"When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pussy."
Defo mate!
but the new ones not got the same comedy value!
( I'd heard you had a use but couldn't figure out what it might be until now!)

Steady on, Biggles
That was a request, btw, not one of my fave movies
Any bootys remember Pete Spiewak uttering the immortal line"This sounds like a job for the Royal Marines"
Yeah Band of brothers is amazing got the box set watched it all many times great acting like that of Damien lewis ( the ginger ) and that fella from friends.
Does anybody agree with me that they can't make good films any more?
Think back to the good War Films they used to make 40 years ago - and when did they last make a good Western?
Modern films make me cringe. If I look through my Sky programme, any film that is made after about 1990 is binned.
Maybe I am getting old, but today's movie stars, just don't cut it.

Have you seen Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven (1991)?
To a large extent I agree with you though. The large majority of my favourite films were made in the '70s.
To a large extent I blame Hollywood for that. They churn out so much crap you start to resent all the ersatz action movies. I think about 1 in every 100 is a good film.
You can't beat a good British war movie - come on the team!
