I dont see the need for using tredmills, unless recovering form a injury and the like. As running on ground is harder, more fun and thats what you will get tested on right? running on ground and not a tredmill. I remeber one tip i was given which was to do run/circuit/run in the same session. For example a 2 mile fast run, folllowed by a simple circuit, then run the 2 miles back again at a fast pace. Obv these sessions have warmups and cool downs. Use the milage you think you can manage and put in good quality work and it should work. I always remebered that working out really well.

There's not alot wrong running on treadmil's but aslong as its not the central running part of your training program.
I always do a 5km run on a treadmil during the day, But then do another 3 mile run of a night time, Then either sprints or the bleep test after that. But i will say running anymore than 5km on a treadmil is almost pointless.

Exactly, I dont wanna be doing 30 miles a week on roads (hardly any grass near where i live)Nade wrote:Well yeah tredmills are good and do improve fitness but its not the same as running on uneven ground. Couldnt you do your 5km run on the ground in the morning? or is this to reduce the amount of stress put on the leg joints from running on ground? Runnign on grass is best really.
In anycase it works pretty good, My CV has never been better and its quite a test of determination doing that 5km treadmil run during the day cause its boring as hell and my legs are so stiff by the time friday / saturday come along.

yeah speed your spot on treadmills are verygood, espesially if you put them on a 5% gradient. as you are still working your heart rate, and mix it up with occasional hill running, alot of people in the army used treadmills and some of them were very fit guys.

Well you mean running has improved CV, ofcourse it will improve CV. But my point was it isnt the same as running on the ground thats all, or the same as running up a hill side etc.. just stating that you need to encorporate them in aswell really. And dont use a tredmill just to stay out of bad weather either, get out in teh rain etc.. to get used to it.
