Anyone who's done it recently - do nods wear safety lines on the death slide and tarzan course and during abseiling? :o Is it just because they were civvies? If they do then what's the point in doing it? It's not that high up and the drop tends to focus the mind and strengthen the grip. You might get hurt if you fall but you'd have to be pretty unlucky to croak. The Corps isn't the place for people who are weak or unlucky. Has the place gone completey mad?

I'm all for health and safety in a commercial world where lives can be lost or wrecked in the search for profit as corners are cut. But let's hope our future foes are easing up on their selection and training. I wouldn't like to have to rely on someone who can't put a bit of fear (and discomfort in the case of the worthies selected for the programme) to the back of his mind. Is this just an excuse for me to have a rant? Shall I go and pour myself a nice calming cup of Horlicks? :bad-words:

I think you have a fair point if this is the case. Lets just hope the training doesnt lack in any other areas as well

Rabby, this plays on mondays at 7pm in Scotland. So this episode is on this coming monday, as it started the week after. :)

Thinking about the river crossing , if they had gone in with bergans would'nt it have been river crossing style using them as floats with weapons slung across .....and therefore much better than swimming with webbing on

I haven't done it recently (or ever for that matter) but I've got a mate who passed out of CTC last year. He said that they did it completely unsupported (i.e. without safety lines). I'm guessing that on the TV programme they had safety lines just because they were civvies.

Hope that puts your mind at rest - don't want you choking on your Horlicks :wink: :D

dannyd - thank f**k for that - thank you, I'll sleep safer in my pit tonight.

My main problem with it all is that I believe that most of you that pass out these days would have done so a few years and even yonks back. I always thought that whoever passed out with us would have been there if the course was twice as long (injuries permitting - and maybe without me as I was at the end of my tether :wink: ). I've no reason to think it's any different now and would hate for your sakes to think things were softening up so that you don't get a chance to really prove yourselves.

I completely agree with you with regards to your points about training. I too would hate to think that they have made the standard easier, however like you, I would very much doubt that they have. I'm sure I'm going to find it just as tough as you did and all the others did who have gone through CTCRM. But I would hate to come through all that only to have someone say "it was harder in my day...". That really would hack me off.

Somehow, maybe if you could get BFBS television it's on on Thursday 20 May at 20:00
That's the good thing about BFBS. We get it 2 weeks later than in England so I no what to look for in the TV listings.

hey fellas,

Just watched the repeat of the d-day recruit lads on tv working with the royal marines (i taped it last nite)

I have to say, what a bunch of apes, it makes me sick that people can show such cowardness in the face of people that did it without choice.

especially since they had safety measures in place, that lil pink safety rope would saved their pussy ass even if they did fall.

Its good to see some of the real men doing some stuff, especially the ML's, they impress me! :D

Really cant wait to get down to CTC once fit enough. How can you watch that and not think "i wanna be a royal :D "

im sure skinny-dipping in a really cold lake is great fun :lol:

I totally agree hard rock bunch of wan*ers, that vet shoud off been allowed to take a free hit at those five with a very large stick.
