USARMY, Further to my last. Having read through the various threads, you will have noted that our respective governments have short changed their military forces in one way or another, none more so than my adopted country Canada. If the forces can make do with less, then let it be so. It is no small wonder that those who have attained the skills that are desired in other facets of life leave for greener pastures.

Well thanks Andy. I will never dodge a question or intentionally blow smoke up anyone's rear. Hopefully, in the futre we can use this forum to learn about each other instead of using it to degrade each other. All it takes is a little mutual respect.

USARMY
Now that we have returned to friendly forum discussion, which is where we should be, perhaps I can explain where we, the Brits, are coming from.
Great Britain consists of 54,000,000 people living in an area of 94,000 square miles. The USA has 196,000,000 people living in 3,600,000 square miles. (These figures may be a little out of date, but so is my Atlas!)
If we have a serviceman killed, for any reason, we all live within about 500 miles of that person, and their families. If you live in New York, and a guy from San Diego is killed, it's bound to be a little less personal, though no less a loss to that family. We haven't sustained serious loss of life in action since WWII/Korea, but you guys have had Vietnam losses to contend, and come to terms, with.
The total number of service personnel in our Armed Forces is nothing compared to yours; your US Marine Corps alone has more aircraft than the RAF!
That's why we get so very, very, upset about accidental/blue on blue occurrences. It's why we can't dismiss them easily as, 'one of those things that happens in war'. Especially when the same thing happens twice.
I welcome your comments, and regret your losses, as much as I do ours.
May it all end soon, and they all get safe home, where-ever that is.

Derek,
You forgot to mention.... more US Marines on one ship (and I don't mean the Nimitz either) than we have in the Corps!

Well, I have to tell you guys any coalition death, especially one we caused is a heavy burden to carry. Americans want Tommy to make it home. America is a country borne out of conflict, so from day one we've been fighting and I guess we always will. The USA has a great deal of responsibilty being the sole power left in this world. Among these responsibilties is to take care of our allies when they come to our aid. Also we must be greatfull of their sacrifice however large or small and be mindfull not to make light of it. Most importantly we must take care to not literally shoot them in the back. Dragging a friend into a fight and then being the cause of their death is a hard pill to swallow. I hope the brass will take to not only the task at hand but how to prevent the most leathal force ever from being leathal to our battle buddies.
