Since the rest of the guys on here felt the need to wander off onto another topic - no names to be mentioned  - I will answer a couple of your other questions Marina.
How many feet are the pilots flying above ground ?
Not many! They can be as low as 30 ft :o at times to avoid radar, but when approaching the target will usually climb much higher to drop ordanents and avoid AAA.
How many planes go an a misson (or sortie) together ( Is that a squadron ?) who's incharge up in the air ?
As far as I'm aware it's only 2 planes together, a lead and his wingman. The guy in charge in the air would be the pilot and navigators. They are briefed on the targets by their command, when in the air its up to them to find and destroy those targets.

You are such a sweet guy ! Thanks alot for helping out.

I was wondering what happened on that part of the topic and was wary of asking again, you lot can be quite scary sometimes !!

But Rabby, it is my sworn duty as an irritating git to drag the anorak based threads into the mire of dead ends and meandering thought lines,

plus it's fun, and if you can't have fun, then what's the point.

I tried being a grown up and it didn't suit me.
Archie.

Of course Rabbie's not sweet, he's a jockwegian, dangerous red bearded, wild eyed, skirt wearing types, and some of the men are as bad.

He's probably away Haggis poaching as we speak.

Bloody hell, do you mean marine as in 3 badger? if so that must be surely be a record. I don't think even you or I could have avoided promotion that long.

One of our old squad is still in too, he's an SD major now.

As for men in skirts, everyone needs a Hobby  although from what I read here lacey webbing seems to be the current run ashore rig of the day. Time was when a pair of desert wellies, a tee shirt and some levis were all you needed,
Archie.

Archie, I have now GOT to go into Clarks and get some wellies for the 30 miler; T shirt and jeans, I don't do anything that needs ironing any more, thankfully nurse doesn't have many wrinkles. (That's me in the can) Pinky White at Poole, early 70s was still a Marine when he left, and had been since Noah formed SB Company. happy days.

I just love Culloden, so quiet and emotional, especially when I enquire of patriotic Jocks, "Now, which way did the English drive the Tams backwards?" 8)

One nil, one nil, one nil, da de da de da da de da da!

Stop pissing about, lets think about this. Culloden is away up there, even by our standards, now what I want to know is how in the hell the oppresive b******s found the bloody place! Most of us today couldn't find the place with a map, so how come hundreds of years ago they marched xxx miles and got there before the gallant battle even took place. :-?
And no stpid comments like "coz the English are clever" and all that crap, as I know its a lie. :)

Ach! Maps in those days consisted of engravings on a tablet. What do you think they used, an ordanence survey map or something, with lines and a scale too?

The Culloden T Shirt. Two Tams in woad and kilts carrying Claymores. One sniffs the air and says "I smell perfume!" the second roars out "The English are coming!!!!"

Rabby,

I'd like to bet they had one of those Campbell bastards in Recce troop. He probably led the English in and while they were all fighting, sneaked off with a sheep or 3 into the gloamin.

Och aye and catch that Haggis before it gets away.
Archie.
