Since the rest of the guys on here felt the need to wander off onto another topic - no names to be mentioned - I will answer a couple of your other questions Marina.

How many feet are the pilots flying above ground ?

Not many! They can be as low as 30 ft at times to avoid radar, but when approaching the target will usually climb much higher to drop ordanents and avoid AAA.

How many planes go an a misson (or sortie) together ( Is that a squadron ?) who's incharge up in the air ?

As far as I'm aware it's only 2 planes together, a lead and his wingman. The guy in charge in the air would be the pilot and navigators. They are briefed on the targets by their command, when in the air its up to them to find and destroy those targets.

Stop pissing about, lets think about this. Culloden is away up there, even by our standards, now what I want to know is how in the hell the oppresive b******s found the bloody place! Most of us today couldn't find the place with a map, so how come hundreds of years ago they marched xxx miles and got there before the gallant battle even took place.

Ach! Maps in those days consisted of engravings on a tablet. What do you think they used, an ordanence survey map or something, with lines and a scale too?
