There's a former Ghurka Officer in my office who was para trained too, any questions you have PM me and i'll pop over and ask him. He's been out about 2 yrs and is a very nice chap (still very fit too).

He's mentioned that during the Jungle phase of selection that they helped out and it was quite interesting to see the lads really hanging out - he also served with the recce section of the Guhrkas too.

I heard somewear that aparently, the ghurkas are the only collection of units (RGR, RGS, and GL) not to have sent detachments to northern ireland, somthing to do with the fact that british troops get spat on fairly regularly, if you spit on a ghurka its the worst insult you can give him! Apparently he'll then as a matter of pride, cut your head of!! :o
HM government didnt like the thought of the ensuing publicity( law suits) and thus the ghurkas never went to N.I.

Like I said, It was somthing I heared.
As for the SF thing, youll have to ask someone else :P

Gurhkas not serving in Northern Ireland has something to do with the tri partite agreement between us and the Indian government to do with the recruitment and use of gurhkas. The exact details, I dont know though. I think it may have something to with using them internally???

Good post Pasha. I believe the young Gurkha officers do still deploy to NI on an as and when basis. In a similar way that young Int Corps officers deploy there after Sandhurst and before they do their int training.
