Still have my RM dog tags from a couple of years ago. It has the bloodgroup, service number, surname, initials and religion on it.

It's a blood group tat, I know, 'cos Ive got one. Yes, your blood group is on your ID tags, what happens if they are blown off in an explosion? Also an enemy may remove your ID tags if you are captured. Basically, it is permanent. And as for 'what happens if your arm gets blown off?', well it's got to go somewhere, hasn't it? and it's better off being somewhere accessable in an emergency like your arm, rather than being in your armpit, where a casualty would have to be undressed.
