I think running in boots would make your feet ache, they are heavy and restrict your ankels more than trainers, (my husband wears them all the time and when he needs to run far in them he gets blisters) Im thinking of doing a run once a week in boots to get me used to it (I will need to buy some first, the only ones I have are knee high with a 6inch heal lol).

Don't run in boots until you need to, for years all Mil personnel ran in boots for BFT's this caused a lot of people problems. In the end trackshoes were brought in and the timings were reduced. Your basic training will convert you to running in boots for now just put the miles in.

Its a minimum requirement???? I keep saying this.
For the people who say there should be one level Please tell me where that level should be set??? 9mins perhaps 10mins maybe???
You really are permanently OUTRAGED  aren't you.

I don't think it matters if the 14min time limit is for guys as well, anyone who is fit and healthy enough to join the Army should be able to run a simple 1.5mile in less than 14min if they have a bit of determination to work on their fitness before selection.
MSI64 wrote:I like many old and bold on here used to run the 1.5 miles in boots and combats rather than trainers? try it some time
Just for the record, I've ran in boots, I've done the steeple chase in boots which is a lot harder than a BFT, so I don't need to try it as you suggest.
MSI64 wrote:I also ran my 1.5 mile in basic in 8.15 and this was consistent throughout my basic training, so do I have the right to say anyone who cant do it in in 8.30 cant join???
That's a poor argument, I never said anything of the sort as I'm not saying that everyone who is slower than me isn't good enough. I'm saying that the time should be challenging & 14min is just too slow.

Personally I would think that the slowest time allowed should be about 12mins as that is easily achievable (or should be) for young determined men and women wanting to join the Forces. The extra 2 minutes just allows people to be lazy.

Ok if your going to quote my post then you might have used this line as well

(Your 1.5 mile at ADSC is to see what your capable of. If we didnt have the 14 minute mark then yes we would have less applicants but please remember that your time for your 1.5 mile goes down to 10 minutes thirty when you join the Army proper.)

14 minutes is an achievable standard, remember the 1.5 mile is a test so 14 minutes for your run is like achieving a GCSE D, its not up ther but it shows you have put some effort in!

Im not outraged but I do kind of feel that it works and has worked for years so why try and fix it just because you did well on your run.

OK I will sign off with this thought

ADSC is a test to see if your fit enough to join BASIC TRAINING which will then train you too the minimum standard the Army needs you too be when you put your foot on the first rung of your career, It is not to see if your the fittest person on the planet.

That's all it takes is practice, when I first started I really didn't like running, now if I haven't run in 2 or 3 days I can really feel it and feel like I need to go for a run

Also they'll give you fitness schedules at the careers office which are quite useful

If makes no sense for everyone to have the same run times regardless of their job, any more than it makes sense for everyone to achieve the same education or pass mark regarded less of their military role.

However if a woman wanted to join lets say an Infantry Regiment then I would expect them to be equal to a man.

Can we all shut up about run times. I just want to hear about this girl and her tits bouncing all over the place.

It would be news to all of us, hypothetically.

If you are going to do the same job as a man then the standards should be the same. Simple.
