There are plenty on this forum who are serving, or who have.
I would say that just because one lot of people believes they're elite doesn't mean they are. How would you even define elite anyway?
I couldn't do a para's job, but then again, they couldn't do mine either...
Every single trade in the armed forces is essential, whether front line or not. Banter is one thing, putting other people down for what they do is something else.
Let's see how far the Paras get without the pilots to fly them about, or the mechanics on the ground to get them airborne, or the chefs to make sure they get fed...
No one single unit is any more than a cog in a very big machine, no matter what they like to think.

You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.

No one in the RAF Regt claims to be elite. Iv never felt the need to big myself up even when in the paras. This type of statement/debate is normally from the younger soldiers or in this case the very younger still at school, boys that have only really got their gen from what they have read or heard.
Lets face it when your a recruit your getting taught from the same pamphlets theres nothing 'elite' about things there. over the years im suspecting a few people are confusing the term elite with supreme fitness and standards. iv never claimed RAF Regt training (phys wise) is on a par with the parachute battalions - as i know it is not. However 2 Sqn RAF Regt CERTAINLY is.
Espirit de corps is a magnificent thing but i will only accept it from people that have actually earnt the right to take part in it.

You're right gunner75, I've never met anyone serving who claimed to be 'elite'.
That kind of tripe mostly seems to come from boys who are somewhere in the recruitment or training process, and have no real military experience.

I've noticed you referring to the Paras as P-Company a few times in your posts so I thought I'd just point out that P Company is usually just used to refer to the tests you have to complete to make it into the Paras.Tenka wrote:I'm going on a P-Company insight course soon
So basically it's the Parachute Regiment Insight Course rather than the P-Company. I'm not saying this to be picky, it's just that if you go referring to the Reg as P Company you're going to sound pretty stupid.
Good luck with whatever choice you make.
