Especially about the RAF.

These forums are full of really helpfull people, who are interested in helping you out and giving advise, people like Von. He has really helped me in a few cases, also PAGreenwell... same as Von hes a very helpfull bloke.

But then we have Wholley, who thinks for some reason that just because I suggested that it may be a good idea to have a seperate forum for the RAF Regiment, that I want to join them, and all he seems interested in is petty little arguments and putting people down. Very mature.

Sorry but i've had enough. Finished.

Now you want to join the Royal Anglian Regiment to do jump training?
You did'nt like the answers you got there either did you?
You come across as a self indulgent lazy article who is simply wasting peoples time, and trying to find the easy way.
"I don't want to go to University"WAH!
"I don't want to join the Para's"WHINE!
"I want to be an officer"DRIP!
Now you chuck teddy out of the pram because someone does'nt agree with your inflated opinion of yourself.

With your attitude you should go far.
And the sooner you start, the better.

Missinformed(sic)Am I?

No offense intended,of course.

Look people,

I am sorry for being an arse :(

I just type and don't think and I have come short. Sorry :)

Hope I can get on in this forum in a more mature and friendly way.

Sorry again.

Scott,

It takes a big man to admit you are wrong so well done. I agree that some of the responses you got were also a little inflamatory but as someone has said it is the mods who put the work in and as such it is their site so you need to hold back your tongue; one of the reasons they do it (at least I hope that this is why they do it rather than a power trip) is to give you a taste of what the military is like, Trust me at Lympstone your case could be rock solid and the training team could be as wrong as OJ Simpson but you would gain nothing by pushing the point.

For my part, even after all you have said, I would still council you to go to University. My reasons are as follows:
1. It is nothing like school. It is the best time of your life in that you have all the freedom of a child but none of the responsibilities of an adult. Unless you are really thick you can spend your time on pretty much whatever you want and still get a degree. Idiots will spend that time pissing up, you could spend it getting a Green Beret through the RMR, getting very involved in a sport that you already do or even have never done (rock climbing, caving, diving...), alternatively you could get involved in making the world a better place through charity activitives or even get engrossed in your subject which if you pick something you really care about then might even happen to you.
2. If you do become an officer you will gain back the three years you spent at University in seniority (provided you graduate)
3. You stand such a tiny chance of getting in as an officer with neither a degree or a green lid and such a good chance if you have both.
4. Shock of shock you may not stay in the Corps for life even if you do get in as an officer and you will be some much more sought after for other jobs on leaving with a degree.
5. The Corps can at times be an insular place, opening up your mind to the world for three years before you jump in is a real plus.

Von,

Thanks again.

Today I submitted my UCAS application. And I have applied to do a Computer Science degree at a few local uni's. But I have applied for a "deferred placement" which basically means that I have a year off and don't go until 2009. This doesn't mean that I am definitely going, but it does however give me the scope to go if I so wish.

I think this was the right decision, so I get a year off to travel/make decisions and have a good time. It will also give me time to settle into the TA/RMR (I really am undecided on these, although I have a meeting at the TA centre on the 17th October).

Please share your thoughts on this?

Thanks again.

P.S It seems me and Wholley are OK now..... I hope ;)

Nothing more to add except I think you have made the right decision regarding university.

Scott,

Glad to hear that you are keeping the option of University open. Where do you live?

Scott, it could be an idea to make one or two of your six choices a university on the other side of the country (I'm from Kent, go to Glasgow, on a year abroad in Melbourne). One of the good things about university is becoming more self-dependent and more responsible. Living much further from home, in your own accomodation, and not going home every other weekend, adds to this.

Just as a piece of advice I was in your position when I finished college and I have always regretted not going to University, it’s too late for me now due to my age for the Corps but wish I had achieved my full educational ability earlier on in life. I do plan to complete a OU degree after training now but this obviously restricts my options at this time.

heheheh.... thats what my Dad said

Von: I live in Brentwood, Essex. I am about 20 mins away for Liverpool Street on the fast train from shenfield.

Jammin: I am applying for uni's near where I live mainly because I plan on joining one of the reserve forces, and it would be hard to stay with the unit if I am millions of miles away. But I see where your coming from on the side of being independant etc.

There is no reason not go to a uni further away though. Many are ideally situated for travelling to an RMR unit - I know Glasgow is one, the HQ of RMR Scotland and has some great facilities, and is, at the most, 30 minutes from halls. I'm not trying to say choose Glasgow at all, just that you can get what I suggested before, and the RMR experience at the same time.

I'm sure you have checked this page out, but if not it is something to consider.

The RMR units around the UK. Many of the unit HQs are located in major towns which also contain universities.

Not disagreeing with you Jammy.
I think it is a good idea to get away, stay in halls, then find a flat, girlfriend etc.
I was just considering Scott's current situation.
Been a while since I was at university and my Alma Mater is in the USA. :o

Good luck with your course mate. Im sure you'll pass.

I guess it is a great move to get the Green lid and do a Uni course. But I am so scared about going to university, hating it, and dropping out. What will that look like? lol.

I know the chances are it WILL be the best three years of my life lol.

Bah! I'm just paranoid.
