In a way well said mate. But i still dont agree with all this bullsh*t that people who are only about 18-20yrs who know nothing about life really talking about 'the way of the samurai' and all that crap. I knew it was going to happen, i really dont believe you'll stick to that when you people die some day, thats the last thing you'll be thinking about. Say the samurai did think like that, its because they were raised that way - fact. You on the other hand, may not be. Thats a big judgement to make but i couldnt see alot of you sticking by those words, thats just complete crap to me. Im not knocking the way of the samurai and the 'warrior honour' thing, that itself is amazing, but when people lay some sort of claim to it - no, no way mate, im sorry but no way.KJ-Edwards wrote:That is exactly what I say to people that ask me why do i want to to join 3cdo, get sent to war and get killed for no reason. I think its funny that everyone else (most civves) think you join the corps just to kill, it is to make a difference, going to war and killing someone is not a thing that crosses my mind, the thing that crosses my mind when people like that "try" and express their opinion to make me not want to join (as if), is that what job do you do? do you enjoy it?.. lol a very slim amount of people will say they enjoy what they do.. I am sure i will love what i will do, coz i love it so far..druadan wrote:Far greater chance of getting killed in traffic than getting slotted in a war zone. It's not something you think about any more than the chances of getting hit by a double decker on your way to work in the morning. If you're going to make a fuss of coming to terms with dying before joining the Forces, you should do the same before you leave your front door.
anyway enough babbling, i need to go shop.

This is pretty much spot on what i was going to say, remember AJ my question was peoples thoughts on themselves dying not the effects that war can have on people that is a whole other thread you have brought up there!I don't think anyone was claiming to know too much about Samuaris, all I can see there is an old saying/proverb which still holds a lot of relevance.
I never meant to reference to you ok, just want to clear that one up.Ste Preece wrote:Yes that was an interesting view, but I feel you missed my point. People die in all walks of life, in all kinds of ways and situations. Ultimately, WE ALL DIE at some point. How or when, usually we have no choice. It could be in the heat of battle, it could be crossing the road, or anyway or anywhere for that matter really.
I quoted the Samurai, because they say they believe it was your time when you die. I liked this and as a ninja I also believe this, so its my opinion. And like everybody else, I'm entitled to one. I don't believe in coincidence, I believe certain things in life are meant happen. No one is predicting anything. Its more of a way of accepting a fact of life or death for that matter.
However, whatever, where ever or whenever, it will happen is down to fate, but like I said it will happen to all of us one day. So what's the point of worrying or whinging about it.
You just need to get on with it.

ps. I wasn't raised that way. Like other bootnecks & Soldiers, I was fearless. I learn't the ways of the Samurai some years after leaving the Corps.
pss: War & Combat is a dirty game, but soldiers don't whinge about it, they just get on with it.
AJ.. on the net... going off on a tangent....NEVER!!!Some interesting views there AJ, but you haven't half gone off on a tangent.
Sh*t that is spooky!!found out last night an old pal of mine died. Funnily enough his name.. Chris Bell.
