I never tried to bin anyone but left it all up to themselves to make the jump. Even in week one it was obvious that certain blokes were never going to hack it. What annoyed me was the ones who were doing OK Wrapping for no other reason than they followed like sheep the blokes who put their chits in.

One grott of six blokes we found out were all going to put in their chits in at the same time. It turned out that there was one strong willed guy who had decided to wrap his hand in so the others just blindly followed his lead without thinking of the consequences. Thankfully three of them had a change of heart when we re-arranged the accomodation as in put all the dripping types into the same grotts. The three blokes all passed out with the Troop.

When your a young lad in grotts with blokes who have a few years on you it's very easy to be led into making a mistake concerning your future career. As to my time in a training team. I found it a really good experience. Even though I was not PW but was in fact Sigs. Started out as a Sigs instructor but somehow ended up as a fully fledged member of a training team due mainly to the fact that the Troop Sgt has served with me in 40 and knew I was more intrested in the soldiering side of life than the Dit Dit Daa side. So I was there for 18 months having a ball.

Artist,

It must have been hard work watching guys throw it all away because they,ve been influenced by others especially as you know at that time what a great career it is to hang on to, and its those others who im suggesting its right to leave, as much for everyone else as it for them.

When i decided to wrap, i did so for my own reasons, but like you say those reasons dont matter at the end of the day, i wrapped endex. But one thing i did not do was sit around dripping and being a negative influence on other people who were staying and cracking on with it, i kept it to myself carried on putting in the effort and waited untill the next monday to see the troop commander. I knew at the time i,d be going back at some point, and explained my reasons for leaving. In the end i wasnt put into the 'opt out' block and stayed in the grots helping the rest of the lads with admin etc, something i was pleased about and happy to do.

However i know two guys who hated it, and i mean really hated it, who also wrapped at the same time, the training team didnt want them anywhere near the rest of the troop, and i think these are the guys who make the right desision to leave which surely is the best thing for the Corps too.

There is no problem fella.Im not picking at you, just getting my point across.I don't take anything i said back because its all true in my opinion.

Course there's gonna actually be some blokes who have good reasons to wrap, but for the majority that don't,it's probably not even worth mentioning.

Everyone who steps off at that platform for the first time (*shudders*) should be thinking one thing and one thing only...gaining their green lid with a globe & buster beaming off it, no matter what it takes.

I couldnt bare to think of the shame inside me if i decided to trot back home without one, trying to think of a believable excuse to tell the friends & family (even though they'd know in the back of their minds their related to a wimp)

Everyone has problems aswell mate, you cant really pin that on it.I had a few meself..tank traps & range stew

Yeah fair enough tugg,

For the majority of people i think your right, infact i know your right, but i was just saying that for some, myself included, thier may be good reason to opt out. I was just a little annoyed with the "you come on here to spin dits about how you almost made it", which is fair enough for you to say as you have earnt your green beret, fair and square. But that is not why i come on here, like i say, i respect those who have gone all the way far too much, to come on and say i "nearly " did it, because i know it means nothing, as the majority of those who wrap just could,nt hack it and untill i get my lid, i may aswell be in that catorgory. And your right again, about the shame, i have hated having to go back home now and then because i know i havent as yet achieved what i set out to, but i was able to deal with it because i still feel i did the right thing leaving in the first place(maybe i should have not joined untill later though). anyway i,m going back, and if its the last thing i do i will crack it next time or die trying.

Get your green lid or die trying?Could make a film about it.

Ok,im not gonna put you off because thats not what im trying to do,but to hear you talk like that sounds a bit chad because youve already threw the chance away once, what makes you think you wont do it again?Maybe you'll get some more problems etc. I mean of course you will, you think it runs completely smoothly for anyone going through training?Think again

Best of luck to you, youve had an insight so you know what your facing, maybe try and have a bit more grit about you this time and you'll achieve your goal second time lucky.

P.S. You resent my statement 'lads who come on here to spin dits about how they almost made it'?.................HELLO.................What are you doing now?

You might be on to something there TUGG, New series on the beeb?

Anyway, i dont feel as if i threw my chance away. I found i had other things i wanted to do before commiting myself completely. I had confronting fellings about whether i should go down to CTC or get them done first, but the AFCO leant me in the way of joining there and then.(hindsight is a wonderfull thing). And once i was there they resurfaced and you just cant get through training when your not 100 per cent in it.

The fact is that many lads leave during training and then re-join later and pass out, and i plan to be one of them. The goal(in the long run) hadnt and hasnt changed, i just wanted to do something else first (finish my education), and im quite sure that is not uncommon at all. I know two ex marines who though they loved their time in the Corps and wouldn,t ever change that part of thier lives, they both now having left, wish they had got further qualifications before they had joined, as now its just not feasable(i.e they need to work full time).
You can say get qualifications whilst your in, and i know you can but after training im sure you have far to much to be getting on with and to learn about the job to worry about or have time to do any extra. I would of thought (i may be wrong) that to get the degree i will have in July (sports education) would be near on impossible whilst in the Corps because of the hands on practical sides of it(many hours spent in placements.)

Anyway i appreciate your input tugg, and i know for sure there will be problems for me during training, but as you say ive had a taster and im positive i,ll have that gritt to get through it.

I'm Back!

So a little update. Its been nearly 2 years since I left recruit training for those guys that remember me. I haven't really been on the forums since and reading my posts have made me realise how much I have grown up!

So I'm 19 now and at Uni Studying Sport and Leisure Management. Since I left Recruit training I trained as a fitness trainer and am working as a fitness trainer/personal trainer whilst at Uni. I've changed a lot and definitely grown up and still have ambitions for the Armed Forces

After Uni (2 years left) I plan to go to Sandhurst and train as a Officer and hope to serve within PWRR (Infantry) or the possibly Grenadier Guards.

Nice to be back lads! I appreciate the advice given to me when I was joing RM and hope to give some too! (Don't ask about anything after week 13 though gents!)

Thanks

I'm also a bit nervous about getting them moments were you really want to quit. I've got my heart set so much on being a Royal Marine that I don't really have a back-up plan. I think after this year of college when i plan to join i'll just about have minimum qualifications to join some form of University (i'll have an AS level and 1 A-level i think) which is slightly comforting.

Obviously I don't imagine myself quitting but I know there are bound to be times were I will have thoughts about it. Just gotta push past them I guess.

Dave, hasn't going for RM Officer tempted you instead of going to Sandhurst?

To quote SO19's signature...

This rings true for pretty much everyone who has passed training for the Royal Marines.

No one who wants it, quits.

But feel free to join the club, I dont have anything more than GCSEs to fall back on albeit, I do have a famly run business as my fall back but it'd only be temporary.

Welcome back to the forums. 8)
After reading through the thread I read when I had my legs raised in bandages I remember it all now.

Nice to hear an old member again, although I wasn't a member when you were.

What made you change your mind in choosing a different path?

Dave,

I have only just arrived back at the forums as well.

Seems we are in the same situation.I left training at week 22 last year. I am at uni now and considering going to Sandhurst. Civi life just doesnt compare to the forces life style.

Best of Luck
