RM reserves, good or bad thing?

I have not contributed to this thread because I considered others would have greater knowledge and input than I, but the way it changed direction has made me well peaved.

I too sent a Tony to B.O. welcoming him to this site and I applaud him for declaring his hand.

It doesnt matter who or what you are, we can all take it or we wouldnt have joined. So the banter and the dripping is okay, but come on THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY PLACE FOR BITCHING IN THE CORPS, lets not prove the Sun readerships impression of Royal.

Hi again, im back on a long weekend from training, loving every minite of it.

Anyway im shocked to see the amount of replys to my post, it seems to have got a bit lost at points but i think it has rougly answered my question.

Would we all agree, both are very dedicated and profesional, with different roles to play.

This question is way off topic but its attracted the attention of so many people id like to ask a simple question and get as many view points on this as possible.

I want to join the RM. So far it seems that every recruit is in his mid-late teens. Im 24, ill join anyway but i was wondering if ill be considered too old as a recruit?

From a female point of view i was attached to RMR Scotland to help with admin whilst doing my final 6 months in the Wrens, I met a fantastic aray of blokes from all walks of life some unemployed, shopworkers, labourers others were lawyers, doctors and teachers. Just like in the regular Corps it takes all sorts to make a team. The men that i worked with were there because they wanted to be and the commitment they gave the 'Rubber Corp' (horrible word) was 101% As a former serving wren i would advice anybody to join the RMR for at least a year prior to joining the 'real McCoy' - pardon the wording. and then if they think they want to continue join up for real. That way perhaps more men of the right caliber would pass the Commando training and the money saved from recruiting those who at that time were not up to making the grade could be put towards better equipment and training for our forces. Im sure this will perhaps put a few backs up but ive heard the same said from many a marine who returned from Iraq with crap equipment...but they did have good words for the RMR guys that served alonside them.

They are actually comforting words for me. If my current job works out I wont be able to join, but then I could always join the RMR anf go from there.

Few older guys on my PRMC, oldest was a 25 yr old, who passed and is starting Foundation in a couple of months. So long as you're under 27, your age won't be held against you...you'll just have to get used to living largely with people a few years younger than you!!

I've sent off the papers for joining the RMR, I'm 27 and fairly fit......I was told the next selection was september so thats what I'm aiming for.

I'm fairly anxious to talk to fellow RMR's in the local barracks and hopefully ex-regulars for an insight into what level I need to get to fitnesswise.

In a chat with the recruitment bloke on the phone he said my age is fine aslong as I'm no arsehole and can make the fitness standard(I dont have to be an athlete(his words)).

All in all I'm looking forward to getting started.
